As I mentioned in the Stihl vs Echo debate thread, I've been researching a new trimmer. I've decided on an Echo. So, don't confuse me and make me restart my research by suggesting another brand.

But, anyway, I'm trying to decide on a model. $300 is the absolute max I'm willing to spend. Honestly, I have a small yard. There's a fair amount of trimming, for its size, but still, it's a small yard, and it won't be thick brush or anything. The main thing that I want is reliability and longevity. Is there any reason to justify anything better than the SRM 225? The SRM 230 and SRM 266 are both within my price range. The bigger engine on the 266 makes me want it, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $100 for my little yard.

Talk me in or out of a model.

I'm not sure what model I have but get the straight shaft where you can change the attachments.

The 225 will be fine for what you need.

i got the 225. no reason to go bigger with a small yard. mechanic recommended not to get the "i' version cause it is just one thing to break. said thats what is broken when a lot of older people bring in their echos.

The "i" version is just an assisted start where small pulls tightens a small spring which in turn tightens a big spring. Said as long as your not 80 you dont need the assisted start.

I have the 225 that you can switch out attachments on... so far it's been great. Bought the blower attachment for it, and I'd like to get the stick edger as well

I have the pas 225 and a bigger one(forget the model). 225 works fine but some attachments work better with the bigger engines. The bed redefining edger is my favorite. I have 100+ feet of beds and it give them a clean look.

I had the 225 for 17+ years and gave it heck with a one acre yard and lots of landscape requiring trimming. It handled it fine and I believe would be more than enough for your yard. Good luck!

I've been running a SRM-210 for 20 years. Perfect combo of power and weight. Only drawback is it won't run really thick line (0.085 vs 0.090 IIRC). I just buy quality stuff, and it holds up fine

Eta: Like I said in the other thread, I have used it professionally twice for a total of maybe a year and a half

Alright, thanks for all the replies. I think you've convinced me to get the 225, save a $100, and put it toward fuel and line.
