Not to fond of the tree strap that came with my new climber. BTW, I got the Ol' Man Multivision. It was in my budget and high quality so thanks for the help on that.

Anyway, I was looking at the stinch rope that I've seen in some YouTube videos and all the hunters have the same tree strap/rope. It looks easy to adjust as you climb/descend from the tree. Looks kind of like this...

Only thing is, it appears that the black knot would just slip off the rope in a fall. I don't know much about knows but does it grip the rope if you were to fall?

Its a HSS "Lifeline". You tie it top and bottom of your stand and leave it on the tree usually. The black knot is a Prussic knot and will not slip in a fall. I have that line and it works very well.

another name for the prussic knot is the icicle knot as it is proposed it could cinch down on a icicle.

Every single lock on we have has a life line on it. I highly highly recommend getting them. They're so easy to use

the prussik will certainly hold your weight in a fall. They are used extensively in climbing/mountaineering applications. Now be sure you think through what you will do once your weight is on that knot. Because once it's weighted, it's/you're not going anywhere until you get the weight off of it.

Just don't hold onto the knot while climbing up and down or it will not cinch. I have one and its makes me feel more at ease while getting in the stand.

It's not the lifeline, that's the tree strap. I upgraded to them this year and I got them off amazon for 16$ a piece. I love em, much quicker setup and I test the knot and it doesn't slip just snug it to loop.

That's a prussik knot, it's a friction knot and yes it will hold.

Mountaineer's use the same knot when on a rope team traversing crevasse fields and for other uses like the z pulley rescue system.

Trust it....if not, play with and learn to trust it.

Eta...not all knots need to be pretty, this one does.

I bought a multi vision a few weeks ago but mine is different from you tours and the old one, it has square tubing where the cable hooks in and both ends of the cable are lose? And one of the welds look like it was new guy day at the Chinese factory.

Great system. It can save your life... If you use it.

I have that setup on my lock on that is at 25 feet - too easy to not use it - great insurance - no deer is worth a fall while climbing up on climbing sticks.

I should note that I don't own the picture in the OP, nor is that me in the picture. But you bring up a good point. I should inspect mine tomorrow to see how the weld are.

Also, do you guys look for any type of tree species when selecting a tree? I would thing a nice sized pine would do the trick cause the bark is easier for the stand's teeth to bite into. But I was told a hardwood tree would be better cause the teeth are actually in the tree.

Stay away from hickory trees the bark is so hard stands have trouble biting into them. Oaks and pines work well

So, if a hunter falls how does he get down? Have never hunted from a stand before so I'm curious.

I made these and they are on all my loc on locations. They work great and not really a hassle at all. Just hook into the prusik knot . Slide it up with you as you climb. Good idea IMO.

This thread and the one about wearing a harness got me thinking about investing in better equipment. I always wear a harness, but I have been using the one that came with my viper climber. It works, but can be a hassle to carry and put on in the dark. I purchased the HSS elite vest harness and the HSS rope style tree strap. Can't wait to try them out, hopefully this weekend.
