Babies aren't born this time of year are they? Has to be a small mature snake. Brown snake?

Color is a little off but the pattern looks like a brown snake.

We found one in the yard last summer and my son kept in a terrarium. We go and vacation and when we get back there are 15 babies squirming around in there. My wife almost lost it.

Not sure on the type of that one, but shouldn't snakes still pretty dormant right now? I mean its still pretty damn cold, and I have seen a lot of snakes out lately.
