I put in a firepit in my courtyard area it's a decent size area I would say about 600-700 SF. Well the area is completely boxed in and the wind coming over the top of the roof blows the smoke back down and keeps it almost unbearable. I had people over for the game last weekend and it was almost non enjoyable due to the smoke. Currently I don't have any over head fans installed on the overhangs. But I don't think that would do much. Anyone have any ideas?

No chance this year. Already have a cord of wood. I need to look into maybe adding some type of chimney to it somehow.

Sure it was the smoke?

I kid, I kid. I have similar setup. My firepit has to be away from my patio so far that it is purely for aesthetics and has turned into a tree limb burning. If you want to produce less smoke you need to use a fire log... not a starer log, straight up 4 hour log under your normal firewood. You need to keep the fire hot and the fire log will do that, skipping the slow start and keeping it hot will produce less smoke and smoke that does get produce goes straight up quickly.

FWIW I am going with a propane fire pit to put under my covered patio this winter.
