I hear for the money, these new Simmons scopes are worth it. I'm green when it comes to optics... 6.5-20 x 50mm vs. 6-18 x 50mm?

Both have 50mm lenses or objective or whatever (I forget what the parts are all called, the end away from your eye is 50mm) and one adjusts from 6-18x zoom and the other from 6-20. I'd get the 6-18 for myself because I ain't never gonna need 20x zoom anywhere I hunt.

It's basically a difference in .5-2?

Yea, the amount if zoom. One, the lowest you can zoom is 6.5x and the highest 20x, etc

Somebody better than me will probably bust up in here and school you on scopes. I'm no expert. Just have done a little scope shopping before and learned what I had to

Yeah, I'm not looking to break the bank on a Leopuld or a Zeiss... but I hear scopes of the same magnitude of 6-18 x 50mm should be near 4x more expensive.

I have a 7 year old Simmons that came on my .270 Savage as a package deal when I bought it. Scope has held zero after much abuse, never had to adjust it once. Only issue I have is it doesn't pull in light for shite. I hunted with a lower end leupold once and was amazed at the difference. My Simmons is no doubt a really cheap one though, it's a 3-9x 40mm. Not sure the model.

The zoom of the scope doesn't have a whole lot of bearing on the price. General build quality is the biggest factor on price. You pretty much get what you pay for with scopes.

This is exactly what dictates price on optics. Those leupolds/zeiss/swarovski/nightforce etc.... that cost in the $1,000's you can see pretty well very late.
