Figured more ppl on the OB know about car maintenance than the OTers.

2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0L Turbo (work car, inb4 lol Hyundai)
121,000 miles

Oil change every 5k miles
Change engine and cabin air filters when dirty
Changed stock tires at 80k miles
Changed stock spark plugs at 105k miles
Had to get a new battery at 40k miles
Alignment and rotation at every oil change

Never had any issues with anything else so I haven't touched any other parts. What should I look at doing?
Transmission fluid? Belts? Brakes?

I would look at the manual. I would think new breaks would be needed before too long.

Hyundai... lol.

Follow the manual. The people who designed it know more about it than we do.

Alignment every 5k miles? Seems excessive. However, everything else seems great.

It's free so why not? Lifetime alignment was like $140

If I followed the manual, I would have changed spark plugs 4 times already, brakes twice, belts twice, and transmission fluid a long time ago. Those manuals are way overkill

You probably should have flushed the transmission every 30k. I would have flushed the radiator at 100k and replaced the plugs. Not sure about cars, but I would have flushed the rear diff too.

Obviously the manual isn't what I needed bc I would have spent over $1000 on stuff that I didn't need to do.

It's a work car, why not let them worry about it?

It's not a company car. It's the vehicle I use to drive 35k miles a year for work

Never skip changing belts.

They're not like chains. They go from like new to broke with no warning. Break a timing belt and you're the proud owner of a destroyed engine. Valves don't like Pistons crashing into them.

Maintenance intervals are absolutely conservative, but belts are something you should never skimp on.

Things that can be visually checked like brake pads can be changed when they need it. Belts need to be changed when the manual says so.

Also to add, if you're hanging 35k miles a year you should be vigilant about maintenance. The manual is conservative, but the numbers aren't just pulled out of someone's arse.

Follow the manual and operate the vehicle like it was intended to be operated at it will last an extremely long time. Start skipping maintenance items and beat on it and you'll have problems. Simple as that.

Flush the trans and put new breaks on it. Both will be expensive to really fix but are cheap maintenance issues.

Biggest thing with a turbo is using good oil- like synthetic of a major brand- not redline or royal purple crap. Those things get hot and dino oil starts coking up, especially in a southern climate.
Speaking from experience with the cummins and JDs on the farm and all those mid 80s Chrysler turbos.
