Yea i have done it, but the question is.. If you spend alot of time preparing food plots and hunting in the woods behin your house would you shoot your "target buck" off the back porch if given the oppottunity? Reason i ask is last year i never saw my target buck hunting but did see him in my back yard last week of hunting season. I didnt run go grab the gun because it felt like i would be cheating for the trophy. Am i over thinking this? If i see him in my backyard this year should i just shoot the thing? Or would it be frowned upon by the fellow outdoorsman? Yea i have shot doe off the porch for meat, but it just feels like cheating for a good buck even though it is in broad day light and there is no baiting involved. What ya got?

You're over thinking it. If I had deer chillin out my back door I'd keep the rifle right there and wouldn't care one iota.

I relate it to fishing. If I'm down working on my dock and some fish start poping, i don't think it's cheating if I'm not in my boat. I grab a rod and see what happens.

I agree with this. No fair chase involved. And I'd be thinking of keeping the gene pool in play. But the does are a whole different story. I've killed em in my garden off my front porch with a snub nose .357 in the middle of the day. Something about a deer or deers standing in the middle of my mater patch with mater vines hangin out their mouth just doesn't make me smile very much.

so killing a deer at 250 yards that's eating on a pipeline is "fair chase"?

c'mom man..

What's the difference if its your house or your stand? Your house happens to be in a good spot. Grab a beer, sit outside, and smoke em.

I would blast him in a heartbeat. You put in your time all season. You earned it. Hunting is hard work and luck. You put in the hard work and you got lucky.

Seems more fair chase to me than shootin that buck off my front porch. But that's just me. I have a big 9 pointer that I see regularly here by the house in the hay field. I've let him walk numerous times. But if I see him out in the woods by my stand...that's a different story. But again, that's just me. To each his own.

This! Just handicap yourself like:

1. Shoot the rifle one-handed.

2. Use a throwing ax.

3. Make him lie down with your hand and a humming noise ala Crocodile Dundee.

4. Literally kill it with fire.

5. Piss on yourself and try to sneak up on him.

6. Cast net.

I hope these have helped. Don't forget to video!

Everybody's different. A friend of mine turkey hunted with me in OK this past Spring. We were cruising down a highway and found two gobblers sparring in a pasture that we had access to. I drove to within 100 yards of them and we walked to within a few yards of them. They were so tuned into the fight that they had no idea we were there. This kept up for almost ten minutes.

It was the last day of the hunt so I turned to my buddy who hadnt filled any tags and told him to take them. He couldnt do it, he said he felt like it was cheating. I'd filled a tag already so we snapped a few pictures and left them.

I'd bet that 90% of hunters would have died to be in his position and squeeze the trigger. To each their own I suppose..

Not the pics, but it was literally just like this..

I guess that's the way I feel, too. Killing a deer for meat and killing a deer for horns is two different things to me. I just couldn't feel proud of myself and my skills or lack of skills as a hunter if I killed that 9 pointer here off the front porch. Now if I was in a hurtlock for something to eat, I'd drop him in a heartbeat. But that's just me.

It's kinda hard for me to shoot one off the backporch nowadays. The swing set I built the kids is halfass in the way. It's still possible but not easy as it used to be. The front porch or out in my shop are the better places to post up.

Don't worry about it; it's definitely more honorable than shooting them from your truck!

Just think of your house as a big permanent blind...
