Got a buddy coming in town this weekend and he wants to go shoot his new AR. Was thinking about Sherburne on Friday. Anyone been by there lately? I assume it's still open .
Any info would be much appreciated.

TIA

I went out there the week before deer season and it's open.

Remember, you are supposed to have any hunting, fishing, or non-consumptive license to be on a management area.

Also, you have to tag in and out, but they have a tag station back there right beside the range.

Was awesome when i went a few months ago. Bring targets and a stapler, they have stands for you to attach them to.

Get your liscense before you leave, every damn computer was down on the way there when we went.

Definitely sign in and out.

So I am supposed to have a damn hunting or fishing license just to use the range? I had no idea.

The range is free but I think it's reasonable that it is paid for somehow.

The basic fishing license is $9.50. For a year. There is also a Hook and Line (Cane Pole) license for $2.50. I assume that qualifies for use of the range.

I usually get my friends that don't hunt/fish to get a "hook and line" license, which IIRC is $1.50. It's the cheapest fishing/hunting license they have. Also, save the trip to Wal-Mart/Academy and just get it online.

Sherburne somewhat recently put up a baffle system in front of the shooting stations. So, be prepared to sit the whole time you are using the rifle range.

Negative. You must have a valid Louisiana hunting or fishing license. As others mentioned, the cheapest way to get one is the hook and line (canepole) license for $2.50. This is the same rule for all wildlife management areas with ranges on them.

I think someone posted a picture of that here recently... How God awful must it be to be staring at a wooden wall unless you're sitting down at the shooting bench? What if you have a spotter? They're usually standing beside you using a tripod mounted scope. So now they have to squat?
