Setup for specks/reds

Going fishing for specks/reds next week with friends and haven't done so in about 25yrs.
I bought a couple of Shimano Saharas with Castaway 7' rods a few years ago loaded with braid and have never used them. Do I need a mono or flouro leader? How long? What kind of knot? Any tips?

No need for mono if you are just throwing artificial cocahoes. Mono leader will be needed if you plan on throwing anything weedless or live bait.

I caught redfish on both with braid over the past two weekends.
That being said, I may use mono leader for our tourney

I just like the mono to rip spoons and spinners through grass.

Just to even this thread out. I throw straight braid. I can not tell a difference in results for visibility but I lose much less fish for varying reasons, and because of that I use braid. I do use flouro from cork to jighead.

I use 30# braid, 20# fluoro leader, palomar knot

Would uni to uni be ok for braid to flouro?

I'm sure you'll find someone who disagrees. But it works just fine for me

I tie a swivel onto my braid with a Palomar knot. My leaders all have loops tied on the end

What kind/size hook for live bait?

Why not straight braid with live bait? Because it sinks?

I use a 2/0 or 3/0 Kahle with shrimp and a circle hook of similar size with croaker.
