Thankfully, I've read of very few civilians carrying concealed who have been involved in a gun fight. OTOH, Isn't the possibility w/ a "bad guy" the main reason one carries concealed?
Not long ago, I decided to go back to carrying a 1911 in 45 ACP. After a good bit of practice, one day I decided to go over some controlled draw and shoot drills. Guess what? The first time I drew, I forgot to flip the safety to off. Not enough training, I guess. Back to the DAO/no external safety lever for me (Kahr CW45) until I've practiced more w/ the 11911.
As one of my favorite novel characters (Lee Childs' Jack Reacher) says, "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst." At this point in time, that means I'll be carrying a DAO/no external safety lever semi-auto.

Yes, the boogeyman is the reason most carry. I just haven't seen or heard of many dead boogeyman.
I have heard of a bunch of gun accidents resulting in deaths though. So an added external safety to prevent trigger pull for whatever reason is probably a better way to reduce my risk of death by gun than a quick draw holster.

Oh, I don't know. 'The American Rifleman" magazine always has 6-8 described every month.
And I suppose you could derive copious figures from the studies published by by John Stossel and/or Gary Kleck.
Kleck's research resulted in an estimate of Two Million (2,000,000) defensive handgun uses (DGU) per year in the US.
The US Department of Justice, in a subsequent study, estimated this number to be 1.5 Million (1,500,000) per year.

Just my 2 cents in this argument, 1st and foremost YOU should be the only one to have access to a pistol/ammo that you own ,example, either in a safe or in a holster on your side. There is no reason anyone else should even know whether you have a safety or not IMO. Only 2 people even know I carry 24-7. If you are BRANDISHING as stated earlier I'm glad I don't socialize with you. BUT, to answer the OP's question I own 3 pistols all three are my carry guns and none have "thumb actuated safeties".

Not every person is actually trained in firearms, but I wasn't aware that training was a pre-requisite for gun ownership. (discussing this topic is another issue)
Not every pistol is used for ccw or the ok corral. Maybe the thumb safety only provides a 0.000001% "unintended misuse" risk reduction, and for some people that is enough to get the safety. So, there's always going to be a market for it.
With safety: varmit, home protection
Without: ccw, holstered
Internal debate: BoB, camping, other

That's how I do it also. If I'm going into an area where I think I might need it, I chamber it, but in general, I do not keep one in the pipe.
