I did find a bad spot of insulation in my roof.

The straight line is where the wall meets the ceiling. Top right is the light in the room. You can make out a hot spot in the ceiling between the light and the wall. I'll have to head into the attic to see what's up with that spot.

What is the range? I'm trying to figure out if I can use it to locate a roosted turkey in the darkness.

Look up intelliscope. They make a rail mount that holds a phone as well as the seek thermal. Poor mans IR scope

I think you will be limited by field of view. It's a fairly wide field of view so you can only get so many pixles on something that is really far away. I noticed they have a new version with a narrower 20 degree field of view. So it puts more sensor pixels on a target a long distance away.

I could easily make out houses at the end of the street 200 yards away. I may go wandering in the woods tonight to see what I can find.

I did to an indoor test with one of those small 8oz cans of coke. Put it by my front door.

Pretty easy to see from about 10 feet.

The other end of my house is 18 yards. I know this because I've lasered it to bore sight using the door knob on the front door from the other end of the house. You can still make out the little 8oz coke can pretty good. The two a-hole dogs at around 7 yards trying to block my view stand out pretty good too.

I've pondered this ever since I learned about the FLIR one. I have to think this thing would pick up a blood trail pretty easily, especially when it's really cold out.

I'm testing mine tonight when I take my usual 10 pm night walk with the dog. I usually always hear deer in several spots and in the woods and I confirm it by seeing those glowing eyes with my flash light.

Wouldn't have to be cold, my FLIR camera can pick up the warmer paw prints my cat leaves on carpet easily. Blood would show up as a cool spot on warm ground as the water content evaporates too. That's why these cameras can show even the slightest damp spot from a leak. On drywall, a leak behind the ceiling or wall could be detected even if the surface you can see is dry to the touch.
