OB brothers, please don't revoke my man card.
I've been BBQing for years, but Hank Hill would be proud of the fuel I've mostly used.
I been trying to use charcoal more lately, because I like the flavor. My problem is my brickets aren't all ashing evenly at the same time. I get some that are all white and some look like they haven't even lit. I stack in a pyramid and apply liberal amounts of lighter fluid. Today I said frick it and spread out the coals anyway and held my fan up to the coals til they were all glowing.

Light pyramid, give that about 10 minutes to turn white, then pick up any around the edges that are still black, and place them on top of the pyramid. I usually use tongs to pick up the unlit ones. When I spread out the coals, I put any remaining unlit coals touching a white one.

Have you tried using a charcoal chimney to light the coals?

chimney works the best IMO, some of the ceramic cooker/smoker guys probably have one of those high powered hair dryers and could give you a review

I buy the little weber cubes to light my charcoal

Put them at the bottom of your pyramid or at the bottom of your chimney

Chimney is best way to quickly get a hot fire

I set my charcoal chimney on my lit gas grill side burner or propane fish fry burner for a couple of minutes. Quick and easy with no burnt newspaper ashes.

My step-dad sets his chimney on his crawfish burner.

I typically just stack in a pyramid and soak them good with lighter fluid...however, there are so many folks here recommending a chimney, I may have to give one a try...

I swear that I can taste lighter fluid when it's used

Maybe they just don't burn it long enough to get rid of all the fluid

Yea you def have to wait a while to let the fluid burn off. My favorite part of grilling with charcoal is waiting for it to ash over. More beer drinking time.
