Good first morning. About 100 birds....we could've shot 200 or more lessers. They were thick.

Day two (honker hunt):

5 man limit of greaters

Day 3:

We have a 5 man limit of ducks. And it'snot 6:40 yet. shite was unfrickingreal.

7:35 and we have our 40 honkers. This morning was amazing.

Dammit! I be so green right now!

ETA: Did you take your own guns? Isn't it supposed to be a PITA to bring guns into Canada?

You can bring back the legal possession where u hunted. So 3 day possession. Which adds up to 24 ducks and 24 geese

Not sure what we're gonna bring back, but I believe Bullred is correct.

We rent SBE II's from the outfitter so we don't have to fly our guns.

Was a fun morning, and we're here til Thursday. Got the mixed bag today, think we're going after big honkers tomorrow.

So, what these trips cost for the 3+ days of hunting?

Sweet trip.

You are allowed 3 limits of ducks and geese. Not hard to bring your gun with you. Specks are thick. So were lessers. Mallards and pintails were thick as fit as ducks go. Too bad there weren't in full plumage yet. Ours was $2200 for the days of hunting. That doesn't include tipping guides/cook. Good people up there.

What do they do with all the birds that people don't take back with them? Do they clean and hand them out to the locals?

Beautiful hunt Bootlegger. This is what I remember from our trip to Sask in 2009. I'm curious if you agree or disagree with my observations:

1) you can hunt anywhere that's not posted. (and we never saw anything posted) unless you're a licensed outfitter/guide. They have to have written permission. So if you're driving around and see a field with 5000 geese, if you were there by yourself (DIY) you could just pull over and hunt. But guides can't unless it's one of the places they have written permission.

2) having a guide was critical for the goose hunting, mostly due to all of the decoys, trailers, Side bys, etc.

3) our guide wasn't much of a duck hunter. We were all better duck hunters than he was, but we kept our mouths shut and went along with his plan. Our guide was an excellent goose hunter. And there's a good bit to goose hunting.

4) at the beginning of the hunt we said we didn't want any ducks or geese. And to just give them away to the locals. At the end of the hunt he hands us a $2400 bill for cleaning all the birds he gave away. We thought that was a royal screw job.

5) I want to go back next year. But I want to do it DIY. I would rather kill fewer birds but have a better experience.

6) I liked the ducks and the Greaters. Not so much the snows and Lessers. There were no Specks where we were.

7) we went a week later than you're going. And the ducks still didn't have their plumage. When I go back it will be second week of Oct. I want to see green heads and bull sprigs.

Only morning 2 of our trip, but thus far:

1. I know everyone we go with our guide, he has a good personal relationship with the farmer. He has access to about 45k acres. Not sure yet about the DIY method, but I'll ask Jeff.

2. YES.

3. Our guide knows we want to kill ducks, and spends time in the US hunting ducks (for himself) so is pretty darn good getting the ducks in too.

4. Will keep you posted

5. Plenty of open land to try it

6. I'm pumped about going for the greaters this morning

7. They are turning green now...several of the mallards we killed were about halfway green

Hopefully pics from this morning's hunt soon....about to head out.

We kept as many birds as we could take back. The hutterite colony (similar to amish people) cleaned the birds for us. They charged $2.50 for ducks, $5 for geese, and 7.50 for geese plucked whole Also charged 7.50 to clean snows since they are a pain in the arse. You can decide not to get them cleaned and they won't charge you if you want to DIY. We also hunted on hutterite land for two hunts so its good to give them business, plus they are good people and work their tales off. Oh and when each bird was bagged, they were tagged as well with the wing on and frozen so it was easy to go through customs. All our bags had printed labels on the bags with our license number, name, and the exact numbers of birds and species in each bag. Super convenient and they were still frozen when we landed in NOLA.
