Picked up a full sized sig p320 .40 full sized, and looking for a carry gun. I picked the shield because it fits my hand right. And feels good. But I'm having trouble choosing between 9mm and .45.

Not intending to start a 9 vs. .40 vs. .45 debate, just curious as to which one you would personally carry.

9mm. Higher capacity and with modern ammo 9mm isn't too different than .40 and .45.

You think shooting a compact 45 is gonna be fun? Get the 9

I have the shield in 9mm and .45, both sweet shooting guns that feel good in your hand. Really accurate for having a 3" Barrel. I thought the same thing ab .45 in the small size but it's not bad at all and actually is nice to shoot.

I would tell you to get a .40 just so you wouldn't have to buy other types of pistol ammunition and risk the chance of putting wrong type in the .40. I've heard many stories of dumbarses doing that. It also would be cheaper buying ammunition instead of you having to buy 2 different sets. I doubt you use two different sets so you might as well just stick with what you already have

Shot an XDS .45 compact before, wasn't horrible. I might just say screw it and buy both

9mm no doubt. How many 45 acp rounds do you get in sub compact anyway? Might as well have a revolver.

I got the .40 Shield but only because I have a ton of .40 ammo to go with my Glock 22.

Not necessarily married to the round.

PE,
Personally I carry a 380, 9mm and 45, depending on different circumstances. Nowadays, I find myself leaning more to the 9mm than the 45. For most shooters, I'd recommend the 9mm instead of the 45. Compared to the 45, the 9mm has cheaper ammo, is easier for most to shoot and will normally have 1-2 more rounds in the mag.

I personally carry the 9. But I have the full size S&W M&P in a 45 and it is a dream to shoot with the longer barrel. I love them both.

Besides just the added capacity and lower felt recoil, the 9mm also will have a lower weight when fully loaded. Those 45 rounds have quite a bit of heft to them and a fully loaded mag in 45 will weigh almost double what a 9mm mag fully loaded weighs.

But 9mm, 40 and, 45 all pretty much do the same thing with quality defensive ammo. The rest is personal preference.

7 instead of 8 IIRC

I have the 9mm, i chose it because ammo is a cheaper for practice and as previously stated modern 9mm rounds are comparable to .40. I put a Hyve mag extender on mine, holds 10 instead of 8. Sweet shooting gun.
