I've been wanting an AR for a while now, and thinking of treating myself to this one for Christmas. Seems to have a lot of features for around $1,000 from a reliable name. Anyone have experience with this one or a different manufacturer for about the same price?

If I'm spending over 1k I'm getting mil spec 4150 steel, chrome barrel, bcg, gas key. also look for cold hammer forged steel and magnetic particle inspection on barrel, bcg and gas key.

chrome barrel,

Although not as good, the M&P15s have melonite coated barrels.

I think it's a pretty sweet rifle. No matter what brand you go with now, pretty much all of them are quality with the manufacturing techniques that are so common today.

I have a few friends with M&P15s and they are satisfied. I have a DPMS upper on a RRA lower and it's great as well.

If it has all you want, you can't go wrong.

Uppers. A BCM upper went 50k rounds without cleaning.

get a bcg and gunfighter charging handle from there too.

I'm busy, I'll get back with you on the lower.

A lot of people would argue that melonite is better.

Certain methods (esp salt bath) of nitriding do seem to yield better results over chrome lining, but you don't see the higher end ARs that use that process. I'll trade the coating for the better overall rifle.

I'd love for some of the high end makers to start offering the option for nitride finishes.

I don't have a lot of experience with it so my information about it is very limited. I just know my DPMS is chromium-lined.

I will say that I love the melonite on M&P handguns though. I'm debating getting one soon.
