More specifically, travel trailers.

The wife and I bought a 2002 StarCraft 23RBS as a starter about a year ago.

Now that we've had a year to get used to one we're looking to upgrade.

I would like to stay under $30k and around 26'.

Any good suggestions?

Yep, buy used that is just 1 or 2 years old and save 40%.

Depends on the size what you are looking for. Also, what are you using to tow it with? Kids?

You have a sickness. My folks started out that way and now have a rig that costs more than my house. They travel more than 200 days a year. Right now are at a trout stream in Idaho. Once you start you can't stop.

We have one kid right now but are planning for more.

I'm towing with a 2013 F-150 XLT Eco Boost.

We want something that will last more than a few years. Not a big spender so I don't plan on trading in every 3 years or so.

We have 2010 Summerland 26ft we enjoy but our next TT will have slide outs. It has bunks for kids and typical layout but we stayed in a slide out once and it has so much more room.

If you have a 30k budget you have many options. You can get a brand new TT with all bells and whistles for low 20k.

we love our Grey Wolf.

one slide...remember to have the slide covers installed before you take it off the lot if it doesn't have any. We didn't do that with our last one and the slides rotted within a year...its a common problem. Slide covers are little awnings that roll out when you put the slide out.

Also, find a way to keep it covered. Whether its a fabric cover or a stand alone morgan-type cover. You will extend its life by a long time.

Skip the outdoor kitchen if you have to and opt for electric awning and outdoor shower handles. We use these all the time. Its awesome to close the awning each night...our previous camper had the awning ripped off during a storm (replacement is over a grand). Outdoor kitchen just kind of "meh" after a while.

With two kids, storage is going to be a priority. Pantry space too. Look for those things.

Electric jack also a huge plus.

We use a drill to put the feet down...less sweating.

I actually meant that we will be doing monthly payments but if I can get a good chunk of change from my 2002 TT that'll go straight towards the down payment.

I'd prefer to stay at $20k or less if I can get what I want.

I'm definitely not opposed to buying used. I just want something that will last preferably until my kids are are in HS.

We looked at Grey Wolfs. I've seen them at numerous sites and we really like them.

Thanks for the advice on the slide outs. I had no idea about that.

We're novice at this. I just don't want to get screwed.

In some ways this is worse than buying a new car.

The folks at Berryland are helpful. Im guessing you live in BR. I would shop around and even consider contacting the factory direct. My BIL bought a Salem 32 ft but had to drive up north to get it from manufacturer.

We learned the hard way ;-)

our camper is 28 ft and we have a stand alone cover. I think it was 3k...it will prolong your seals on the top and tires. Try not to park in the grass to cut down on tire rot. slides need to be greased every once in a while.

You need to go to a camper lot and look in all the campers. Floor plans are surprisingly different and you should find the one that works best for you.

We settled on one that had a big bathroom in between the master and the rest of the camper. Don't take it off the lot until they have walked you through all of the bells and whistles and turned on and off everything to make sure it works.

We love the state parks...you can do 10 days in pensacola, walking distance to the beach, for 250$ ;-)

No we live in north La now.

We do plan on driving down during football season to tailgate with it also.

We will probably be driving around the different dealerships throughout to shop.

We've also considered heading to the DFW area if the price is right.

Used Airstream
Livin Lite

I'd go smaller myself and look at the Escape eggshell from Canada.
