Living in the Yuma, AZ area and working around RV's, im curious as to if anyone here own's one or has owned one in the past? I have been looking around for one to get my feet wet. I have looked at Class C's and travel trailers. I guess my question would be, what was your first RV purchase?

I've owned quite a few over the years. I've mainly used them while traveling for work.

My first one was a little 26' bumper pull with no slides. I've upgraded many times since then.

My best advice is to get a cheap used one first. Get into the campgrounds and visit people with the nicer ones. If you start out by going big, you'll end up wanting something arranged a little different once you see what others have.

I would personally stay away from the Class C, or any driveable RV's for that matter. Once you set up and level, hook up power, sewer, water, etc., you want to be able to leave it until you're ready to leave the campground. With the drive in models, you have to unhook and hook up every time you leave to go to the store unless you tow a vehicle behind it (reducing your fuel mileage). Just my $.02.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. I've got a VW camper van and we love it for the mobility and very good gas mileage (for a camper). My inlaws have had 3 class A's and have really enjoyed them all. They like to pull into a large campground and spend a week or so socializing and exploring the local area with their tow car. Personally, I don't want to tow a car. We might upgrade to a bit larger camper on a 4wd truck chasis some day but nothing larger than that, we want to be able to get to some remote locations the larger RV's just can't manage.

Arizona is a great place for an RV/camper. We spent a week last year at a few higher elevation campgrounds in SE Arizona. Some very nice places off the beaten path there.

Hybrid travel trailer. Once we knew we would use one, we moved up to a 5th wheel. On second 5er now. I want to get a slightly bigger one to have bunkhouse with front bath.

Not a huge fan of RV's, there's something very deep about sleeping under the stars on a hammock or in a methodically fashioned shelter. Just down the desert from you, so I would love to have a discussion with you in person over this topic.

Looked at Class C's initially, but the CC was just low.

Bought a Class A in 2007 and we have really had fun with it.

When I can figure out how to hang an ENO in south stadium before gamedays, color me deep.

Thanks for the input, I work at an RV resort and we cater to many "snowbirds" from Canada. Now, they all have nice Class A motor homes and 5th Wheels. I was thinking about a travel trailer because it would just be me, the wife and two small kids. I have my eye on a used 24 ft. Artic Fox travel trailer.

That's what the salesman was telling me, he said to start off with a smaller used one to test the waters.

I started out with a 25' bumper pull...traded up to up to a 38' 14000lb 5th wheel toyhauler. My family and I race dirtbikes so we're going into all kinds of backwoods tight spaces. Trying to maneuver/park that big sumbitch was nerve racking, and you we're basically limited to getting fuel at truck stops.

I recently traded it in on the smallest class c that would comfortably fit the family. It's great not having to stop to use the bathroom or eat and the kids can watch tv or play xbox while on the road. It's a breeze to pull into a regular gas station to get gas and park as well. I was also surprised how well the Ford V10 pulls. Loving it so far...though now I wish I would've gotten the next size up.

I lose 0.5mpg towing my trailer or Jeep. The front area wind resistance and speed is the biggest thing that affects fuel milage.
