Has anybody ever made this run from Breton sound marina? I use a 22' express and I know it has the fuel range to make it, I just don't know if it would be advisable to go that far even if it is glass. What do you guys think.
ETA was thinking maybe Wednesday

Depends on the day of week. If it's a weekend, there will be plenty other boats out there going to and from in case you have an issue. I've gone out there in 21 foot bay boat several times..of course we go 10-12 miles offshore in that boat as well so maybe i'm not the best person to be asking!

It's much shorter out of Venice. I've run it before in a 20f express. It can be done but if it gets rough be prepared to spend the night in the cove . Fished out there twice already this year. Hasn't been too impressive they have fish just not the size you get used to out there

If you're going all the way there, I'd suggest running from Venice. That's quite the haul from Hopedale.

If weather changes quickly, you'd be in for a
miserable beating on the way back

I've done it in a 19 ft boston whaler and gone all the way from VN989 in that boat with a single 150 johnson. Would I do it again? Not a chance although the weather & waves were a perfect 10 the day we did it. Glass all the way.

Now a 21 to Breton Island--that's an easy run as long as you watch the weather patterns over the last few days before hand. Go early in the morning when the weather patterns haven't fully built up yet. I would pick up some live croaker and hit the rigs north of Central for the big trout right now unless you are in the mood for numbers then Bay Eloi is where you want to be.

On the flip side the trout are still thick in Bay Eloi right now so there is no need to run all the way to Breton for the early morning bite which shuts off around 10 AM.

Awesome thanks for the info, I'll stay in and around bay eloi I suppose. I guess if I decide to make that run one day I'll do it from Venice

It's not really a question if the boat is capable or not, because you have more than enough boat. It has everything to do with the person at the helm.

It's one of those times where if you have to ask....

Between the rocks and eloi you can save a ton of fuel and have peace of mind.

Fish all the points in China Pass, Long Lagoon, Jo Shipman Pass, Halfmoon Lake, Blind Pass, and Lake Eloi and you won't even burn 1/20th of a tank right now as the trout are stacked thick. Deep water, points, and drop-offs are the key with live shrimp or Voodu Shrimp.

That much open water with a 22 express is a bad idea. If a storm blows up,as they do this time of year, that boat is going to get rocked.

You'r failing to realize how capable a 22 foot express can be in the proper hands. I'm not saying it would be a nice easy ride or you won't get wet, only that with a good helmsman it' relatively safe.

it certainly doesn't seem as capable as most glass 22s, running to timbalier and even lake ponchatrain when it gets kicked up sucks. I think it's basically a 22 foot flat, that's the only reason I specified express. It's an older hull I think 2007, the newer ones seems to have more of a v. I've Never felt unsafe it just sucks. Looks like I'll save my gas and stay around bay Elois thanks for all the input.

I have been on plenty of express boats both 20ft and the 22ft. They are capable of lots of things and a slick looking ride. BUT they have no place in an open choppy bay. They will literally beat the shite out of you. My buddy lost his trolling motor in big lake heading in one day only to be salvaged by the battery wiring.
Point is that sure you can make it to Breton in that boat, but you risk taking a beating and probably not safe with younger kids.

Where you out there the weekend before last by yourself? Ran across a guy in a skiff. Said he was from the Miss coast.

I do it in a 19ft nautical star, but as everyone said please come your days. Know where you can get shelter at all times and have a good radio. Venice is a much closer run via baptiste Colette.
