Ruger Mini-14

Buddy was going to get a RRA LAR-15 and had been hoarding all of his leftover ones and other small bills from the titty club and change from McDonalds, but ended up buying some other shite and now doesn't have quite enough loose cash to purchase that gun. But he does have enough to get a Ruger Mini-14. He says he is just looking for a zombie/government takeover gun and wants a high-powered auto.
Any advice on whether that gun is a good idea or should he not do that? Ready to purchase now and doesn't want to wait so that's the deal...thanks.

Mini 14 is a good rifle however mags are more expensive to get good quality than an ar15. I've had one for 10+ years, don't shoot as much since I got an ar15 but still holding up good. I say save your bucks a little longer and buy an ar15. Saw a bushmaster on cheaper than dirt other day for around 700.

Mini 14 is a fine little gun though I've read that it isn't the most accurate gun out there, but I can't confirm that.
I will say that I would bet you could find an AR for cheaper than a mini 14 though, and I know you can build one for cheaper.

I've done a lot of research on this and I can't make up my mind. The regular ranch mini is unstoppable accurate enough that you won't notice. The cheap ar that is in the price range if the mini is not the best but won't be horrible either.

If he doesn't want to wait, I would probably look for a quality AK over the Ruger.

I was shopping for guns last night on the net and stumbled across the Doublestar ar-15 flat top for less than the Ruger Mini 14. Better platform, lighter, and more accurate.
