Ruger has a new bolt action target/tactical around $1100 and is said to be very customizable.

quote:

The end product managed to exceed that goal by a fair margin, as internal testing conducted by Ruger has yielded an average of 0.83" at 100 yds using multiple guns. The sample sent to American Rifleman for testing performed even better than that, achieving an average result of 0.76" at the same distance using three ammunition loads.

meh....

Agreed although a Tikka will do the same for half the price. I think the appeal comes mostly from the ability to swap parts easily (especially the barrel).

Fast twist 243, 6.5 creedmoor, and 308 to shoot the heavies.

PMags or AI mag compatibility.

3 lug action.

barrel nut design.

Honestly, the more I read forget Tikka. Buy this and when someone makes a Bartlein(or other quality barrel) prefit barrel, buy that and shoot with the high dollar customs.

I just someone would make a 3 lug action in left hand with a floating bolt head. Can get the bolt head with big horn and the 3 lug with the new GAP Tempest, but cant get both combined.

Hey guys, what's the purpose of a gun like this--hunting, competition, something else? Not flaming, just curious.

To me, its more suited to the target/competition crowd.

With the popularity of long range shooting picking up, this seems like an entry level rifle that will put you in the game. If it shoots good this will get more people into the sport.

Could it be used for hunting, sure although not ideal. I didnt check the weight, but its probably enough to make the big men cry around here. Its ok though, I carry my 13-15 lb comp gun hunting and have no issues.

Anything you want it for. I was at my friends camp in January and of his friends used a GA precision with a schmidt and bender pmII to hunt with. He also shoots long range matches. Another guy was using a Surgeon with a Bartlein barrel and IOR scope and a competition chassis. You can use any rifle for whatever you feel is the proper purpose. Some rifles may be better for competiton, hunting, etc. but what it was intended for and what you can use it for dont have to be the same.
