Outside of the take down version, is there really that much difference in these rifles?

I ask because there is one for sale for $169.99 and I've been toying with the idea of getting one for my daughter and as a general plinker. I looked and the barrel seems to be the same between this model and some of the other more expensive ones.

I realize the stocks are different, but outside of that, is there much difference and is the stock on a .22 going to make that much of a difference?

No. Stock action is pretty much the same. You get some barrel, finish and stock differences among the other models. Other than the TD, as you say, that's about it.

I would go as cheaply as possible because it is, by an order of magnitude, the most accessorized firearm in history - only the AR-15 even in the same league. You want to save budget money for the accessories.

Unless you want to skip the middle man and get the tacticool SR-22R.

I'm considering one of these for my next purchase.

all you are really buying is the barreled action, which is identical in all the base models. as ace noted there are some upgraded models with match/bull barrels, etc, but the basic 10/22 innards are all identical

accessories abound
get a base model, shoot it for a while, then decide if you want to upgrade it. to me the 10/22 barreled action with a nice aftermarket stock is the way to go

unless of course, you need a gatling gun

You'll be happy with it.

I've been. Wanting to lick one upself. I have a Marlin Model 70 that is fun to shoot I just hate that it's only 7 shots. I want something with more capacity.

I like the 10/22s. I like the PWS Summit more though. For the price, go for it.

Good price. Get it. I bought one in 1995 for $159 from Sports Unlimited in BR.

Skip the SR-22, it's way too frickin heavy for a 10/22. You are better off buying a cheap one, getting a nice Hague stock and a bull barrel for the same price as that crap. I sold mine off for a very slight loss thankfully.

Those BUIS on it are completely worthless because grabbing the barrel shroud can alter the front.
