I have $225 worth of giftcards to Cabelas. I'm looking to pick up a new baitcast setup. It'll be used for bass fishing in N. Texas. Anyone have a good recommendation?
TIA

Have really liked my new chronarch. Might have to buy the rod outright but may be worth it

It will definitely surpass $225, but $250 for Shimano Curado E with Ugly Stik ($30).

I'd suggest not getting a combo. Get a nice reel at first and just put it on whatever cheap rod you have lying around or can find.

Then go buy a nice rod whenever you are ready. I've always noticed the rods that come with the combos are usually POS.

No need for a corrosion resistant reel for bass fishing in north texas. Pass on the Revo Inshore and grab a Revo STX.

Ugly Stik ($30).
?? awkward combination there. I've never fished with an ugly stick that I liked.

While I agree with most of what you post with regards to fishing...this ain't one of those times. I got both and put both on a level field of play.

both are good.

i'm just partial to Shimano

SO
spend 200 on a reel and 30 on an all star

I'm a shimano fanboi. But I did have the lowest grade revo(s?), it crapped out on me (I used it exclusively in saltwater though). I know the highest grade revo (Stx?) is a sweet reel. One of the guys I fish with has one.

I just got access to great discounts on Abu Garcia stuff so I'm planning on trying some Revos.

I recommend watching bapple's "First Time Firearm Buyers" video, followed by "Caliber Wars and Stopping Power" prior to making a final decision
