Heading down to pre-fish for an FLW Collegiate tournament this weekend on Red Rive. Staying out in Coushatta to shorten up the boat run from farther pools or launches. We're mainly going to fish pool 4. We know a few spots but I have personally never fished there before, so any spots or pointers would be very helpful. The actual tournament is September 19th. Thanks!!

I probably will, I'm sure they know more than a few places. I was just seeing if anyone else knew some places that non-members of the team weren't too familiar with.

Not on an anonymous board to a fisherman with no sense of direction. You may be from U of Arkansas.

If I wasn't from LSU, then I wouldn't even know who DHjr. is, right??

Or Levi for that matter?

Darrel is probably heading up and i'll just talk to him since you don't care to help

Haven't fished it in a while since I recently moved, but the old river channel all the way up by L&D #5 always holds good fish if you can make it inside the relatively narrow channel (depend on river levels). It's not a secret by any means, but it always yielded a couple fish when nothing else was working. It is off the main river so the water quality is usually a little better. There are some deeper spots in there and the rocks on the very south end always hold a few fish as well. It's a long run from the south end of pool 4 which may discourage other competitors.

Thanks for the help! The tournament is out of encore, which I believe is in L&D 3 so i doubt were make the haul to the north end of 5 but if the going gets tough, we'll definitely consider it.

Touchy are we. I did help, I gave you the names of some "reliable" sources, people you know and whom you can trust if you're actually on the team. Of course I could have just given you the waypoints to some infamous garholes since you don't know me from Adam and I may have ties to ULM fishing.

Be careful on that damn sewer ditch though it will tear up a boat with a quickness. Good luck.

You're misunderstanding. It's at the top of pool 4, just south of L&D #5.

My apologies man, i misread the context of your comments. I've heard red is a nasty area to run a boat, especially in the jungle, and it's pretty easy to get stuck. I saw pictures of clinton stuck last winter. Would not want that to happen to me.

Truth. Used to work with a guy who basically refuses to take his boat on the red now because it has messed up his boat so many times.

If you're locking through, you should be able to find some good fish in either Sullivans, Red Oak or the Jungle. All close to the lock (4). Will be crowded, but they're all good oxbows.

We'll be locking through to lock 4 and will probably fish there all tournament, but I know everyone else knows those spots too. We're gonna hit those this weekend and see if we can find any patterns before the tournament and if we can find any places that everyone DOESN'T really know about.

I'll post later if we catch any solid fish

Last time I fished there, which was a few years ago, I fished an Oxbow Shad, Bomber Fat A along the rocks in the main river.. Wound up taking 4th in a BFL tourny..

Side note... Where there were snakes on the rocks, there were fish....

Go to the first oxbow south of lock #4 and go all the way til it takes a right. There's a little cut back there and start fishing the bank on the right back out. There are ledges right there and its really deep in spots. Caught a lot of good fish in there through the years. There are also some willows on the other side of the oxbow that hold fish in the morning and an old boat launch that's hard to see amongst the willows. Throw a shad colored crank in there and on the deep side as well. Flip the lone tops in there too. I wouldn't fish any further back to the right in there as I have never done much good.

You can go to the second cut of rocks south of the lock into one of those little ponds and flip the trees in there too.
