I'm just south of Clearwater in Madeira Beach. What kind of guide or charter are you looking for? Offshore, Inshore, Tarpon, Snook, party boat, or private?

I just moved to Tampa and was looking for the same thing. Looking for an inshore charter first. Any recommendations would be great. The inner Baw in me is dying to fish I just don't know where to go around here, it's depressing man.

Will be there end of July. Anything particular that's good to target then?

I'm thinking inshore. Read there's plenty of good fishing close by.

Congrats on moving to the area. As far as charters go in Tampa Bay proper I have not used any. However dont be discouraged, you have world class fishing in just about any spot you want to try.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge has access to two great fishing piers. You can drive your car on pier to your spot. It's usually one of the first places people will try. Can catch anything from Sheephead to Tarpon from those spots.

Gandy Bridge on 275 has spots to pull off and fish. Big Redfish 35"+ and Snook that will test your gear in a ripping current. Adjacent grass flats hold lots of trout.

If you own a kayak your possibilities are endless in less than 45 minute drive. If you like to wade fish you can smoke big trout and reds over by Fort Desoto. Pull over on road and fish. Lots of places for parking.

I am usually fishing Johns Pass in Madeira. I meet people from Tampa, Lakeland area pretty often. Sorry I wasn't much help in your charter looking, but if you ever get east over near my bend in the beach we can check out a couple spots.

End of July the offshore game is usually where it's at. Snook season doesn't start until September 1. Trout are usually mushy and wormy from all the warm water. And unfortunately we usually are in the annual red tide slop July-August. You can get on some big reds on the flats, but have to avoid areas with the algae bloom.

Hogfish, Grouper, (red and gag) and Snapper bite is usually on fire. Kingfish run starts then as well. Usually get on some Little Tunny for action on ride out to a reef by sighting schools and trolling big XRaps. .

As far as Inshore charters go IN Clearwater I have used Rick Reddick. His websiteHe does a pretty good inshore run. We used it this past spring when some friends came down, and he put us on a few fish. Think it was $550 for half day.

If you decide you want offshore options I have only used ones out of Johns Pass in Madeira. 20 minutes south, but maybe different or more affordable options if you need.

If you have to do a party boat in the area, I can only recommend Hubbards. Party boats suck but those guys put you on fish and I've had fun even with my Father In Law in tow.

If you ever looking for a fishing buddy let me know! I'm very knowledgeable about fishing in Louisiana but definitely need to learn this area a lot better.

Call Capt Dylan Hubbard at Hubbard's Marina St John's Pass, tell him I gave you his name.

Just tell him what kind of fishing you want to do. If they don't do it, he will refer you to the right person.

Yeah I recommended Hubbards. They are the best charter in the area if you have to get on a party boat. Dylan is a massive dude but he's a pretty good guy. He makes sure his customers have a good time.

Keeble,
Leave me an email and I'll contact you about doing some fishing and learning the area.

Yes October is great. Snook season is open. Big reds are still on the flats. The trout are there but I don't keep any until It cools off. Also late October the Flounder run starts through December. Can score a couple of different Inshore Grand Slam/Bay Estuary Slam for tshirts and certificates. October is a good month for fishing. Good luck.

Was down there last November and didn't know or have any recs, so I googled and found Captain Jared, in Clearwater. Myself and a buddy went out with him. He put us on some snook and other fish. We caught a lot of fish and drank a lot of beer. He is a young captain, but we had a lot of fun with him. Google Capt. Jared Clearwater. He was reasonably priced as well.
