While we're on revolvers, the LCRs (also Ruger) are pretty sweet, although my go to recommendation is a bobbed hammer SP101, in .357 and find the right light .357 or .38 +P to fit your stopping power and recoil needs.

Buy the PM9 if you like paying extra for cosmetic touches you won't notice.
Kahr CM9 is the answer, or at least it was for me. Kahrs have a reputation for being finicky for the first 200 rounds, but I haven't had that issue with the ones I've owned.

There's a whole raft of good single stack mini 9s now, though, so I would say get whatever you like best, as long as it's a single stack mini 9. Most people aren't committed enough to carry a double-stack pistol, IMO. Or maybe you do like going around with a "shoot me first" vest on, I don't know.

If I were buying a CC gun right now, I might wait for the Springfield XDs 9 to come out, though I bet they are haaaaard to get once they are released.
I handled an XDs 45 today, and it was very nice. I just don't like the idea of only 5 rounds, even if it is of .45.

Smith and Wesson M&P 9c. That's what I carry. My next gun will be the M&P shield, basically a single stack version of the compact
I'd recommend the M&P 9c, but I'm not a big fan of the shield. Don't like the skinny grip, you can't change backstraps either with the Shield. And the Shield is actually taller, and only 1/2" shorter in length than the 9c. 9c has higher capacity.

Definitely P229, then - get it in .40 and buy the .357 barrel (after all, Sig invented the .357 automatic) - 2 guns, but I'd up your budget to about $1000.

A little heavy, but definitely a lifetime purchase.

i have the both complete sigs. 40 and 357. I have had them for 20 years or so

Spectacular Guns IMHO

Yeah, I only need 1 round, but I carry as many as are practicable because the target could move unexpectedly, the wind could blow, I could flinch or the sun could be in my eyes requiring a very, very, very rare follow-up shot.

It's the width of the shield that appeals to me. It prints way less than the 9c. My BIL is a skinny mofo and carries the shield with shorts and a t-shirt no problem

If I need more than 5 + 1, I need more practice.

At least that's how I see it. I can see how more rounds would make you feel more comfortable though.

However, I do keep 2 loaded 7 round mags in my truck console just in case.

What if its 3 or 4 targets instead of 1?

Then I better make good shots or hopefully I'm close to my truck.

To me the knockdown power and < 1" width make it worth the small risk of facing more than 2 targets.

Yeah, running might be an option too haha.

If you like the caliber, the bodyguard is a great gun.

Yeah, I laughed too when I thought of it, but, seriously, if it's just me (no wife or kids to protect), and it's 3 or more targets out in the "wild", so to speak, I'm thinking of finding the quickest, most direct route away from all those motherf*ckers, and the sooner the better.
