What variety of fig trees do you guys like? I'm thinking about planting one this weekend. The LSU Agcenter says the main varieties are Celeste, Brown Turkey, LSU Purple and LSU Gold. The LSU Gold variety kind of makes me nervous because of the poor cold resistance. Whatcha think?

The kind that doesn't have invasive roots(if that exists). My parents had to have a plumber out at least once a year at their old house because of one. Figs are awesome though.

Good to know. The area I had in mind might be close to some plumbing.

Celeste are the best canning figs. The LSU gold makes a really big fig that is sweet. Brown Turkey are okay they are bigger than Celeste but not as sweet.

Go with the celest. Its my favorite. Very good production. Just be sure to plant it atleast 10' away from any structure.
