Has anyone ever done this? Thinking about doing it on my boat. The carpet isn't in terrible condition, but it's starting to show it's age. And I know it's going to start getting bad in the next couple years.

School me on this. And what is the difference between 16, 20, and 24oz carpet?

I Recarpeted a 17' xpress 2 years ago.
- keep old carpet whole as possible and use as template.
- cut bigger an trim down to fit
- get a scraper, acetone, goof off, rubber gloves then go to town and get all old glue off.

The Oz carpet refers to is weight. How thick it is I think. I went with what came on the boat. If you go bigger/thicker, your hatches may not close. Too thin and it won't be a snug fit

I don't remember the brand I used. I got it at lowes. Marine glue and spread it with a trawl. 3m heavy duty sprsay (black can) from lowes for edges.

Good advice from SeaPickle.

I re-did the carpet on an entire 18ft bass tracker a few years ago. Pretty much got the best 'marine grade' quality stuff Lowes had as far as glues, carpet, etc.

Measure twice, cut once is also a good rule to remember. Oh and also keep the temperature and humidity requirements in mind when working with the glues.

I ordered my boat carpet offline. Let me go check and see what I used
Another tip, order boat length plus 10' for carpet length. More if you will be doing inside of storage compartments. I also used an angle grinder to remove glue. Also, pour acetone on a towel and lay it over an area. Go back in 5 minutes and then remove the glue.
Update: I don't have the site I used but I think is was bassboatseats.com. Carpet was $400ish for 25' x 8'.
Update 2: MOST importantly, for your lids. Make sure you run the carpet the same way as the decks. If not, they will look like different shades. Same rule goes for all sections. Run the grain the same way

That ain't too shabby. That's one of the websites I was looking at. That and marinecarpeting.com

I imagine it would cost a lot more if I brought it to a pro to get done.

I had ordered outdoor carpet from lowes when I did my boat. It was like a plush carpet - put it into a ski boat felt great bare foot

Is it plywood or fiberglass underneath the carpet?

If it were me, I'd clean all the old carpet off and see what I had. If all the fiberglass was in good condition and came clean, I'd order a template kit from seadek. It would cost more but that stuff is badass. seadek custom template kit video

me and a buddy do re-carpet jobs on the side several times a year. it's hard to explain what I'm gonna say.....make sure you lay all the carpet in the same direction.....run your finger through the carpet fibers. you find this "grain" will either allow your finger to smoothly glide across the carpet (which is the correct laying direction) or your finger will lift up tufts of fiber as you slide it along (wrong direction to lay it).
if you do it wrong, the finished product will look like mismatched colors.
you want the correct layout from front of boat to back of boat. it allows water to run off the carpet.

sorry if this doesn't make much sense! hard to explain.
