I made a thread a couple months ago asking for advice. Put off getting the rod and reel and my mom surprised me with one today. She got me the Penn BTL6000 and Tessera Shaky Head 6' 11''. I can take it back if something else would work better for me. I mainly fish mangroves around Cocoa Beach.

Reel is a little heavy but I'm sure I can get over that. Reviews are great for both but every complaint with the rod had to do with an eye randomly breaking while reeling in small fish.

I luv the Penn Battles... I have 2-2000's, a 3000, 5000 & 8000! Great reels. Buying another 3000 tomorrow. That being said a 6000 is a big reel! I like using the lightest reel for the fish I'm targeting. My 8000 is HUGE, my 5000 is very big and we don't use it much.

I think it's a bit big if your doing a lot of casting, working the bait. But if your gonna cast and let it soak it's a great combo!

Haha yeah it's pretty damn big. Should I go with one of the smaller ones?

No my dad is from Anniston and my parents moved from Birmingham to Lakeland Florida when they had me. They've since moved to Cocoa Beach and I live with them for a few months every year.

Dude that's a sweet mangrove rig. Absolutely no reason to trade it in for anything.

I hope you check this thread again.

You are missing out on one of the best fisheries in North America if you aren't fishing at Mosquito Lagoon down at the Canaveral National Seashore. Get a Yak and hit it for the best fishing in your life.

Dude, that look's like a pretty sweet setup.

I personally wouldn't change a thing about it.

what type of and lbs. line do you have on it?
Also, how big are the mangroves you're messing with?

Looks like a nice setup, except I wouldn't have that black foam shite on a rod. Cork FTW.
