OB, my wife really wants pet ducks and when she passes her certificate exam, I plan on buying a couple. What are they like? Dirty? do they grow fast? What feed should I get? Can I get one that will taste good later?

What Clyde said.
I got one for an Easter present when I was a kid and he made a long time. He was like a dog and would quack every time someone came up to the house.
Fed him cracked corn, had a little pen in the corner of the yard with a half 55 gallon drum for him to swim in.

Every Muskovy I've ever been around was mean as hell

And now that ai think about it, sounds like the perfect choice. Gf gets pet duck. Duck grows up and is mean so she hates it and let's him eat it...and it tastes great.

I've helped my MIL raise Pekin and Muscovy ducks. She has a few Muscovy that she has raised since chicks and they are very social and cool if you can get them used to humans when they're young. Mean as hell if not.
To OP, ducks are disgusting creatures, but they make awesome eggs and taste delicious.

I have around 20 on my pond. Rouens, Pekins, mallards, buffs, blue Swedish, and Cayuga/Pekin mix. Nasty bastards when in the brooder and cage. Great at the pond. Good hobby. Good eggs. Good to eat(I do not because I kill plenty of wild ones). Not a bird you want confined. I do not want mine too tame as the predators will work them over.

Don't they stink to high heaven?

Cracked corn said earlier. That's what I fed mine.
Had English Callers, Rouens, Indian Runners, Pekings, Muscoveys, Wood Ducks.
Rouens, Pekings and Mucoveys if you planning on eating them later.

I feed a mixture of 1/4 layer pellets, 3/4 cracked corn. I use the eggs.

I quickly found out why they are called "fowl". Nasty motherfrickers!

Worse than hogs. Muscove are good eating though and grow fast.

ducks grow quickly...probably egg - adulthood in 5-6 months.
ducks will eat everything that you can afford to feed them and shite like a damn machine...they are some nasty frickers, so you'll have to keep them away from a house.
almost mandatory to have some place for them to swim...they are quite literally 'waterfowl"
with that said, they are actually pretty cool creatures...dumb as a rock, but they are generally friendly and will follow you around like a dog if they think you have three kernels of corn in your pocket.
