The weather is cooling off and the wife and I are looking to get into the woods, but with my work can't really get that far out of town. Past couple of times we have camped at bodcau but are looking for something different.

Any suggestions? Caddo lake?

Looking to stay close. Leave on Friday after 5 and be home Sunday afternoon.

TIA

Is broken bow too far? It's about 2.5 hours. Good fishing in the fall.

Definitely wouldn't go to Kisatchie. Its opening weekend of squirrel season and it will be packed down there.

I don't have any specific recommendations, just that you should be sure and avoid any area in Louisiana that allows hunting. As alluded to by another poster, squirrel season opens Saturday as does rabbit season. Deer archery season opens Thursday so a lot of people will be in the woods this weekend.

North Toledo Bend Park was really nice when we stayed there last year. My favorite spot, though probably further than you want, is Shady Lake in Arkansas. It's up by Alberts Pike. Beautiful place up there.

Shady Lake is great and we have plans on going up that way in the Spring, but for the remainder of this year have to stay pretty close.

Thanks!
