I think I want a suppressor for my FN 45 because it seems like this pistol is made for one. I live in Louisiana and I was wondering if there was any special laws or anything special I need to do to get one.

Two options:

1. Get a trust and file form 4 with ATF, and pay $200 tax

2. File form 4 as individual with ATF, and pay $200 tax

You're goddamn right

Don't feel like typing everything out on my phone. Go to Bowie Outfitters and ask for Carson

I have been reading and it's seems complicated but it seems like the best way is the trust. Is that what most people do?

It really isn't that complicated, more agravating than anything because of the wait.

Yes, trust is the way to go for most people. And if you use a good local class 3 dealer they will make the process pretty easy. I used Bowie's for 2 of my suppressors. It was a pretty smooth process, but of the 3 different dealers I used none of them were bad.

Go with trust. File soon to avoid 41p which includes notifying Cleo (doesn't require their approval). It is just an extra cost and headache to send fingerprints and photos.

Do I have to have an attorney setup the trust or is there a way I can do it myself?

You will need an attorney to write it up. They have one that post here that has done a bunch in the BR area.

Is the $200 a one time fee or every time I buy another one that is added to the trust?

The trust will be around $300-$400 usually and is a one time cost. The $200 tax stamp has to be paid everytime you buy a different suppressor.

Is it still beneficial to own via trust after 41p? Wont all the obligation be the same? Either way, I would still have to notify my CLEO and still do the prints and photo, right?

That's what I understand also I don't think this has actually been litigated but the 4th amendment applies to individuals not trusts. Maybe a lawyer can clear that up.

Unless things have changed in the past 12 mos or so, you don't have to use an attorney, buy why take the risk of doing it yourself. I know someone locally who set up their own trust. He shared the paper work w/ me, but the risk just didn't seem worth it to me.

It's not all that complicated, but you have do things right. A good dealer will do the majority of the ATF application so mainly you'll just have to sign.I payed $150 to a local attorney to set up a trust. I sent in my application right at 1 year ago and had to wait only 3 mos.

The benefit to the trust is that the trustees can be in posession of the item without you present.

File as an individual and your wife/butt buddy can't have access it possession of you're class 3 item. It also makes passing down your items easier when you die.

I look at these as lifetime purchases, selling them isn't really an option or cost effective.

Is this the same trust as someone would have for money?
