I recently purchased a new boat in Mississippi and was not charged any taxes. I am currently in the process of filling out paperwork to have it registered and it says something about a R1331 tax document. Am I going to have to pay Louisiana sales tax on this? If so, what is the process? TIA

Normally when you register it they will collect the tax. That's why any cars I buy have Montana plates they are company cars no sales taxes

LINK

If you buy it from a private owner, you shouldn't have to pay tax. Fill this out with the link provided and take it to your local tax collecting office, usually the school board in most parishes. You will then have to go to the state tax collecting office in your region to get it stamped, then from there you can send it in, or bring it to LDWF to get your registration.

This is what I did. I got away with just paying 4% state tax.

What the others have said is what I experienced when I purchased a boat from Florida. You'll have to go to your local tax office to do thier required paperwork and fees, then to LDWF to do thier's.
I ran into an issue with DMV because of the trailer. They did not like the fact the trailer was not a seperate stamped bill of sale. Good luck at the DMV, you'll likey burn at least one full days vacation getting it worked out.

You have to fax the LA department of revenue. Origanal notorized bill of sale. LDWF tax form. Copy of your drivers license. Any other paperwork that came with the boat. Mississippi boat registration with hull ID numbers motor serial number. I just faxed mine off. 225-952-2503. Give them name and address and a phone number and they will call you when they get the fax. They said it would take 5-7 days to complete. Hope this helps

How did you pull that off? I've already gone and paid state tax and have it signed and sealed.
