I am researching a restoration project down there for my masters and will be making a few trips down beginning in the spring. When are good times to fish/ where to fish besides the beach. I have only fished grand isle via boat so I know nothing about bank/wade fishing the area.

What will you be fishing for?
Most of the shore is gently sloping.
On the NE end of Elmer's, right by the pass, there is a sharper change in depth. In fact, if you are wade fishing and not paying attention, a misstep could put you in over your head!
It happened to me last summer.

Surf

Some of the cuts that cross under the road you can catch reds in them sometimes

Cast net can get you some live skrimps for bait.

Yak would be cool to have

April the beach started, May got better. The Forbidden Hole and the bridges are good Jan-Mar. Which project, Caminada headlands?

The bridge on Hwy 1 where the road heads to Elmer's Island. Free line live shrimp on a falling tide on south side of bridge. Caught 7 trout between 17 and 21 two weekends ago.

Elmer's is currently closed because of Issac, have not heard of when it might open. My sons & I usually fish the beach from May to July.

It's actually a really easy place to surf fish. I
There's a drop off about 30-50 yards from the shore that holds fish. Mornings they will hit top dogs. Mirrordines and rattletraps work good. Of course cocaine (live shrimp) is always good to have

Fish any of the culverts or bridges on Hwy 1 from Leeville to Grand Isle, especially when current is moving. Also, look for cuts in the marsh along the highway with water moving and try the points.

I would suggest some rocks in the Thunder Bayou area where it is overwashing. None of that burrito shite either needs to be in 3' of water.

There are numerous places to fish besides the beach. When the tide is falling, you can catch tons of reds right there at the bridge on Hwy 1 at the entrance. You can bank fish all the way along that bayou, and even wade fish the bay that it flows into, that connects with Caminada Pass. There are alos canals on the right side of the access road that you can bank fish in, or kayak fish. I rarley surf fish there because there are no breakwaters. I just fish the beach at Grand Isle for the rocks.

there's actually a place that rents kayaks right there across the street from Elmers, at a camp. I have my own so do not know anything about what the charge. Bobby Lynn's has a good number of boats too.
