We have an Australian Shepherd. This SOB chews up the grocery store rawhide bone in about 30 mins. He loves to fetch, but he literally eats the leather cover off a baseball and tennis balls are just a mess.

Any alternatives out there that are relatively economical and long lasting?

Scratch the tennis balls and buy these. They work great and last.

Get rid of this, it's not good for the dog at all.

Anything by KONG or Bionic is virtually indestructible. I have german shepherds that chew threw chain link that cannot destroy them.

I can't find a happy medium. Either my dogs rip through something in under 10 minutes, or it's so tough they just have no interest.

My dog used to tear up all of her toys, until I bought this rope toy

However, if your dog is anything like mine, cut the loose ends off. My dog eats them and then shits out multi-colred fibers.

I have a GSP that does the same. Kong and major exercise is about the only options for him. 5 mile runs every day help a lot

I think there are different levels of kong. I think the black is more indestuctible, but more expensive. We got a rally big nylabone (think that was the name brand) for our lab and she never ate through it.

What color kongs?

reason I ask is:

red is tough...but black is virtually indestructible...

The black is still destructible, but less so. My GSD would go through a red kong in two days. The black ones lasted a month or so. But, that was better than anything else I tried. A black kong is probably indestructible for most dogs.

It wasn't the original KONG design which probably has something to do with it. My roommates lab chewed through this one in a few days.

Don't ever use these!

I have a good friend who's a vet technician and she says they're always getting dogs in with bowel and intestinal obstructions because the fibers get caught and cause issues.

Make sure you are buying those from a source that you know where the antler is coming from, can frick up your dog if they source it from something tainted.

Kong Extreme (black) is the only thing that works for us.

KONG Wubba

My dog is almost 2.5 years old now so starting to mature (slightly), but if I pull this out he goes full retard. Ive been through two of them since he was a pup but this one is over a year old and still hold up. Plus, they can throw this up to themselves if they are creative enough.

I gave my lab a pair of old Red Wing boots and a deer head every now and then.
