Was toying around with the idea of building a pull in boat blind on my lease in the marsh. Any one have any advice on these? I've only seen them in the middle of lakes or in the timber. Just curious how big this thing would be for a 17' duck boat to fit in and we would hunt from in the boat. I just don't think the typical boat blind fits in well on my lease so we would just build a permanent one and brush it with natural stuff instead of the fast grass and bringing brush every hunt to blend it in.

hunting out of the boat sucks in the marsh IMO. It's easy but doesn't look good. Build the blind on land and hide the boat and walk/paddle to the blind.

I'm with you, with the exception of Venice or any place that has tall roseau cane.

ive hunted from a blind that has a lull in boat "garage" and then you get out and hunt from an actual stand. But from the boat would be not fun

I have hunted pull in blinds in the marsh and I prefer them to other blinds. I just cut some extra brush before each weekend to brush the blind up. It's nice having everything right there with you in the boat.

Yeah, build a boat pen with a 3x18' floor running down the side the length to get out on and shoot off of. You'll have 18 feet of floor and that plus a little extra brush off the ends will hide a 17' boat and motor in the pen behind you.

Only recommendation I would suggest is to look at the longevity of the area around before you build a big extensive boat blind. In pretty much all of the marshes in SE LA you build a blind and within 3 years it's in the middle of the pond. It's a lot of work to build a blind and not hunt it for very long. We quit building them years ago and use portable stuff. Also it doesn't advertise to poachers where the good places are to hunt.

All that being said a blind with a pull in for a boat is the tits when it's set up correctly, very popular in the SW part of the state.

We have a big ole blind out in the middle of a lake that we pull our boat into and do just fine. I don't see why it wouldn't work in the marsh as well. Ours is 17' long and has a shooting deck that runs the entire length.

OP, look around your area. Do you have any tall brush areas around? To me, hunting the marsh, anything that sticks out around the land mass, birds will flair in late season. Been there, done that.

Something like that would stick out so bad in the marsh I hunt, but they are nice where they can blend in. The grass is so short where I'm at, that I really need to be as low to the ground/water as possible and I just can't accomplish that with any sort of boat blind.

we put burlap around the boat, park next to some island/land and keep our head down. seems to work just fine in PAC. any "blinds" seem to flair the birds

We are about to put one into production. We are going to make 2 pontoons similar to the floating blinds we've been using. Problem is hiding the boat and the blind. You have to 10'x20' area. This should give us a smaller profile all the way around and not have to mess with the pop up blinds. It will have spuds and eye pads to use ratchet straps on the four cleats on boat so our stability issues should be minimum except when we hunt big bays on strong wind. Pontoons will have pipe welded into them to place brush. I wish it was further along but all we've done is had aluminum broke and ordered all the materials.

That sounds awesome. Keep us updated with that build. Our work weekend is October 10 and we may try to get semi creative on at least one of ours. My plan is to do some hunting out of a MoMarsh layout blind setup, but I'm not sure how it's gonna work just yet.

Just don't hunt out of blinds period. I get the comfort and whatnot, but if you really wanna kill ducks all season long, the best way to do that is to avoid hunting blinds. They're smarter than a lot of people think.

Boat blinds and pull in boat blinds are on the top of the "do not do" list. You can get away with it in places that are slammed up with ducks like Venice or certain places with really tall cover. I'm just assuming that the marsh you hunt is similar to the marsh I hunt in that it's rarely over stomach high.

This is all we hunt out of in open marsh. We cut big cane and stick it in the mud then top it off with a good thick bush. Just have extra that way once you pull in you can stick some behind the motor.

How are you going to hunt a layout blind in the marsh and not get wet?

the same way you hunt from a pirogue or a yak.

The invisilay from MoMarsh has adjustable legs up to 16" or some shite. The ground is hard enough that I can easily lay on it.

My setup last year was parking the boat down the bank a good ways and just walking in the marsh all the way to the blind. There are some holes you have to look out for but you'd be surprised how stable the ground is.
