Going to South Florida for a continuing education course and am bringing my rod in hopes of picking off a peacock bass, since I've always wanted to catch one. Does anyone have experience with this? Are there any public access fishing spots to canals/ponds holding peacocks? I figure its worth a try.

I just moved right between Boca & Ft. Lauderdale 6 months ago. Been trying every week for 6 months to catch a peacock with no luck. They're out there and everyone I talk to sees/catches them with some regularity.....just not me

Apparently there was a freeze down here a couple years back that killed off most of them. Your best chance would be to head even further south towards Miami. Any water/canal/pond you see on the side of the road (which is everywhere) will have something in it.

Thanks, might have to do that. In the meantime, I'll try to do some research and if I find anything or end up catching anything, I'll update

In Boca their are a couple of neighborhoods with huge peacock bass...you gotta find those on your own.

But lake Del Ray has a lot of them you need a boat and a white fluke.

Be sure and buy a fishing license. If caught without one, it is a misdemeanor in Florida. go to myfwc.com to buy it online.

Wish they were as far Noth as Orlando. I would love to catch one too.

I won't have a boat, so I'll just try my luck from the bank

Tell me you caught one. Try the canal on the side of the turnpike for a last resort.

Lake Del Ray had huge bass in their doesn't it. Btw if you want to catch a snook go to Georges by A1A and fish the light by the reaturant. They have like five of six that are always their...I use to hit people when I was a soph in high school with my fluke and then drag it across their table and catch a snook as soon as it hit the water....really funny!!!
