These proposed changes for primitive arms in La.
Reads like, (removing restrictions on weapons that can be "carried" during primitive arms by hunters on private land).
Anybody know hat this means exactly? I'm hoping it means you can hunt with choice of weapons ..modern firearms & calibers...as in Miss.... but I'm not sure and haven't received a reply from my e-mail to LWL&F.

Just got a reply for LWL&F. Applies only to weapons carried for self defense. Taking of deer is still restricted to primitive arms.

I mean....do you really need more than 60 days with a rifle?

It is just allowing you to carry a pistol for varmints during primitive season is all. And yes Fratierguy we need a shorter rifle season, cut the limit to 3 deer no more tan 2 of either sex, and horn restricitons state wide.

I really wish they would cut it down from six as well. BY the way, how long has it been a six deer limit?

Can you elaborate as to why you believe so?

I don't think Louisiana has a deer herd issue so lowering the limit to 3 seems unnecessary (the VAST majority of hunters kill 2 or less deer/year anyway) and adding antler restrictions implies that you think they should manage the herd for antler size and not overall deer numbers, and most of the state disagrees with you.

Well that sucks... I was really hoping it was weapon of choice all season on private land.

A long time. Even before we had to tag deer, the limit was still 6, there was just no way for LDWF to track what you killed.

When it's nowhere close to being a state wide issue why make state wide changes?

Agreed

2015-16 LDWF Annual Deer Harvest Report

On average, deer hunters kill less than 1 deer/hunter on the season so reducing our deer limit wouldn't affect much I would imagine.

Respectfully disagree. Let a hunter decide for himself what legal deer he kills. Some hunt for horns, some for meat. Decide on your land or club what you want to do.
