Properly using target turrets on scopes

I have hunted all my life, own many rifles, all of my scopes have regular hunting turrets on them. I decided to go out on a limb and get a new zeiss with the target turrets on them to avoid holdover on long range shots(slowing getting into distance shooting). Anyone have anything to comment regarding these things? Any literature advice? I know the jist of it all, just trying to learn as much as I can. Any tips on zeroing?
Btw, it's a zeiss conquest 4.5x14x50 on top of a tikka t3 stainless 7mm.
Thanks.

Do you have a chronograph?
First thing I would do is borrow one and shoot your load through it.
You need to know the characteristics of the bullet you are shooting(ballistic coeeficient mainly).
After you get the speeds and collect the weather data.(Temp, humidity, Density altitude, pressure, etc) Get an app like Shooter or Ballistic FTE.
Plug in all the numbers and she bang it gives you what to dial.
Next....try it all out in the real world and see if it works.

I thought the same thing when reading it.
I actually read it twice.

The first long range match I shot, I used ballistic FTE and got a first round cold bore hit at 1000 yards. I havent been so lucky with shooter, but its a little more in depth and I havent put as much time with it yet.

Oh and JBM ballistics has a great website for all this stuff as well.

I keep remembering stuff......
What reticle is in your scope? (moa, mil)
And what are the scope adjustments?(moa, mil, iphy)

I know one thing for sure, my next scope MUST have mil dots. My brother has a scope with em and I'm freakin fascinated. It just makes so much damn sense.

But you have to make sure that the adjustments match the reticle....ie mildots=mil adjustments
Or else you will be doing more math than needed.

I have a scope with mil dots on my 35 Whelen. Pure luck that I'm dead on at 200, and the first mil dot is dead on at 300. Made me look like a genius for buying that scope to all my hunting pals.
300 is the farthest I've shot it so far, but I'm interested to see where the other mil dots line up.

Yea I figured that out the hard way. He has mildots and MOA adjustments. I think it's a cheap scope. What pisses me off is it's a 6-24, but you have to mil everything on 12x.
I'm extremely far from good at it as I've only played with it, but I can't wait to have an excuse to need a new scope so I can get one.

Doesnt look like it has any holds built into the reticle like a mildot, everything you dial will be based off judgement, Might be easier to just hold unless you are dead sure of the wind.

Just range it on 12x, alot of people run the second focal plane nightforce scopes with great success. Its all about knowing your equipment and how it works.

Yea that's what I meant.
I've only used to for ranging stuff in the pasture. I haven't used it for doping or anything yet. I'm not familiar with it at all other than ranging T-posts and what I've read on the internet.
From what I've read I want a 2nd focal plane rig, but I doubt I want to drop that kind of money until I get another rifle and can afford for the mauser to turn into a range queen.
