Privacy Trees and/or Bushes

I am looking for some quick growing, low maintanance trees or bushes that can provide privacy in my backyard. I don't want anything too tall just simply a tree or bush that looks good. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Pampas grass. No maintenance and the interstate could be on the back side and you wouldn't know.

Thanks for all of the quick responses! These are all great suggestions. I'll check these options out. We are near a busy street as well so blocking noise would be beneficial to us.

wax leaf ligustrum
cheap, grows while you watch it, can be shaped into a hedge, the bees love it when it blooms, etc

Eleagnus Fast growing , hardy and can be shaped for vertical hedge. Another choice is ligustrum japonica

only thing I disagree with is "no maintenance". True as far as watering/pruning, but if you plant them close to anything remember they get huge and multiply. They are a complete mess after about 10-15 years and are a bitch to clean up.

Eleagnus/silverberry is my recommendation. Fast growing and no maintenance.
Red tips - there's a fungus going around that'll kill them but if they're healthy are beautiful, fast growing and I love the way their blooms smell
Ligustrum - flowers/pollen can cause people with allergies some serious headaches but otherwise are awesome and fast growing
Celera japonica - not as fast growing as the Eleagnus but has more color to it (lots of red foliage).
Holly bushes - some people really like the look of holly and they are thorny and might discourage interloper but the red berries that some produce could be a negative if you have small children

Several different types of bamboo could be good. May try a clumping type. Key is to place edging material deep enough on both sides to keep it from spreading outside the planted area. Stuff grows pretty fast too.

Red tips (shrubs)

Had it growing up. It was used as a "wall", never had any problem with it spreading. It pretty much stayed in a straight line. Not saying it doesn't spread, I just haven't had that experience.

Doesn't compute.

No the first several years anyway. Once they get big, you'll have to prune.
