Pool pump motor issues

So my electric pool pump motor just started making a loud grinding sound. From what I've read and been told, the bearings are going out. I called a local pool store and they told me a "machine shop" would have to repair this or I should buy a new motor (of course) which runs about $300-$400.
1. What "machine shop" around Baton Rouge should I contact to see about this repair?
2. How long can I run this thing before it goes out?

You can buy them on line. They are easy to replace.

Buy a new pump motor. You can keep your old front end pump if you want save money. But, I would just spring for an entire new pump and motor. Pools are expensive.

buy a new one and replace it yourself. Its easy to do and relatively inexpensive motors.

When you replace the pump, put threaded fittings on the plumbing so it's easier next time.

P and R Electric used to do some of this...give Marshall a call...at the corner of Greenwell Springs and Choctaw...6523 Choctaw Drive...if he does not do it he will know somebody that will...

I would go ahead and replace the one he has.
Then, have the core fixed for next time.

I replaced the bearings in mine a few months ago for $11 and some elbow grease.
YouTube is where I learned how to do it.

You can either replace the motor or try to replace the bearings. I've replaced the motors but never the bearings. I've also replaced all the seals, including the ceramic seals, and that doubled the life of the motor. The sound may be the result of a leak in the ceramic seal with water getting into the bearings. Once the bearings get rusty or corroded, it's either replace the motor or try to figure out the bearings. Either way, you have to replace all the seals as well.

Same thing happened to me two summers ago. I ended up replacing the entire motor/pump, and took the opportunity to buy a higher efficiency motor. Bought it online at PoolSupplyWorld.com.
You might want to look into buying a variable speed motor if you think it might save you on energy costs.

My pool is 30 years old. I'm on pump motor number four. Still have the same pump with "O" rings and a clamp replaced. Oh, I'm on the second sand filter and only the 3rd liner.
