My 2014 sportsman 570 has always made a clunking noise from the rear end when going slow and letting off the gas and slowing down or braking. It's done this since the day I got it and as far as I can tell it's a very common thing with all these Polaris sportsman. I think it's the clutch that does it but does anybody know a specific reason why it does this? Here is a link to a thread from the Polaris blog about this issue being no big deal I had a guy set to buy my bike today and he had never dealt with a Polaris before wt belt drive and auto transmission and wouldn't buy it because of the knocking noise. He is still interested but wants assurances that this is normal.

I've got a 2010 850 and it has done the same thing since the day I bought it, I've had it in several shops and they tell me there is nothing wrong,I use it mainly for work so it's got a lot of miles and hrs on it and so far I have had 0 problems with the rear end but it is aggravating .

Probably hearing the clutch weights engaging and releasing.

I have the clunking from the u joints, both front and back on my 2005 Polaris 700 Twin EFI. Clutch and drive belt have been fine.
I just replaced all of my axles and CVs all around. That was a bitch in the rear end because they were locked in to the differential all tight and crusty. The fronts were easy.

That isn't the rear end. It's the driveline in general. Unlike Yamaha, polaris has a regular cvt. It loads and unloads.

If you want to preserve your polaris belt life, you give it constant throttle and don't try to baby it on take off.

I got 5200 miles or so out of my old 500 when I sold it. Original belt and original u joints.

You will hear this noise any time the clutch does not have enough throttle to grab the belt. Don't baby the bike and you will get more out of the belt
