Re: thread from last week, I asked the question about purchasing in another state, would any taxes be owed to La.? All, I believe said that, when you brought it into state, if you didn't register it in La., there wouldn't be.
Now the followup stuff, share the knowledge...

IF a Polaris was bought out of state, (there was).
IF said UV isn't registered in La, (it won't be, at least not by me), there won't be any owed.

But, at the signing and meet up,, it was told to me that this state, (bammer), does send transaction to Baton Rouge,, BUT, if anything is collected, it's up to BR to collect,, not my responsibility to notify or send in.

Doesn't that sound extremely wishy washy and pretty much means that Ill be getting the letter from BR wanting their cut, sooner or later? I have all paperwork as far as title, etc.

Sounds like..

I wish I had checked that out more, instead of listening to all my knowledgeable IRS buds on the OB.. It falls on me,, if it falls,, which considering the present state of the state now,, I'm sure the BRahhhhhh tax man is already licking the envelope.

Didn't see the previous thread.

1st question: Bought from private seller or dealer?

If from private seller, no. No taxes owed in Louisiana.

If from dealer then yes, the dealer would report the tax credit given at the purchase to Louisiana dept of revenue.

Answer the above question and go from there.

Edit to add: the Dept Of Revenue isn't going to seek you out over it though. All they do is wait till someone attempts to register it then they want proof of taxes paid (even if it was a private sale you still need to get a letter from your local and state tax offices to show you "settled" any taxes owed, if any). So if you never plan to register it, you should be in the clear.

I've heard mixed info on this one. Personal opinion, new vehicle - yes count on tax man because he sees new on the registration docs. Just a matter of time.

I would not worry about it. Let BR Gov figure it out.Just make sure to keep that cash owed handy.

Accepted delivery of hunting supplies on tax free weekend...its a bit of a stretch....but may work

ETA...C. During the Annual Louisiana Second Amendment
Weekend Sales Tax Holiday, a consumer’s purchase will be
eligible for the state and local sales and use tax exemption, if
one of the following occurs:
1. Title to or possession of firearms, ammunition and
hunting supplies is transferred from a selling dealer to a purchaser.

Just re-read your post. I believe it's true that Alabama doesn't report to LA. I've bought items from both Miss and Ala. Miss reported but Bama didn't. But again, if you decide to register, it would be on you to show proof of state and local taxes paid to the respective tax offices.

That's what Bammer dealer told me at delivery,,, but, it sounded a little like lip service.
Rest assured, I'll never register it,,,,,, on purpose.

Bammer does send in purchase price, etc to La, at least now they do,,, but, if it's my decision, it won't be registered.

Not at all. Sounds like LA will rape and pillage you and your wallet and smile whilst doing it.

Im hoping that's my 2nd line of defense,,, but, honestly, I'd think to get tax free in la., it would have to be bought from a La. dealership???

Yep. If it was purchased out of state then you will have to pay taxes on it in order to get a title.

This is what happened to me. I purchased 4 wheeler in Ms., paid no taxes. Several months later gat a call from La. Dept. of Revenue telling me they had my title and in order to get it I had to pay the taxes. This was several years ago but I think it still applies.
