My Eagle Scout project was series of wheelchair accessible gardens for a nursing home. They looked similar to the one below. The one change I made that worked well was using rebar running through the whole column of wood at certain intervals to give added support. The beds were really long and needed it.

3 - 1x6x8 cedar boards
cut one in half, buy some stakes for anchors
either remove all the grass or lay down newspaper to kill the grass
put a mixture of topsoil, garden/manure mix soil, blood meal
top with leaves
plant veggies

That's too much work.
2x12 boards and get a 4x4 post for the corners to screw into.
If you make them long you will need some middle supports to keep it from bulging eventually.
