Any places around Lafayette that I can go and legally shoot targets on public land?

I live in Youngsville, so going South towards the marches would be the nearest place that I might could find something.

I'm thinking about going off the levy in Henderson, but I'm not sure if that's legal because the levy road is right there.

I want to shoot all my guns; rifles, shotguns and pistols.

I don't like shooting ranges, too many cops and I don't like to pay for something that can be done for free.

SIAP, I searched, but didn't find anything to answer my question.. Google failed me too.

Shereburne WMA has a range, but it is about 15 miles north of i-10 down a gravel road at the Whiskey Bay exit.

What are you on the run? Wanted for a crime? Did a cop shoot your dog?

I'd much rather shoot next to an experienced shooter than someone who's never shot before.

Unless you're attempting something like this:

None of the above.. I just rather not be around them.

Thanks for your suggestion though...

LDWF has a shooting range in Woodworth, off Robinson Bridge road, in the Alexander State Forest. It's free, and I never see cops there, because they have their own range elsewhere in Rapides Parish. You have to check with LDWF for the hours open. They also have a skeet course but the hours are more limited.

Both Woodworth and Sherburne look like great spots, but they're both over and hour away.

Appreciate the suggestions

Anything near Abbeville or Lake Fausse Pointe?

Took the wife to Sherburne. She shot a gun (PK380) for the first time today.
A bit of a drive, but a very nice place. Good experience, no cops, lol.
