Places to Ski/Boat in NOLA

I'll be living in NOLA this summer and I was wondering where there are some good places to take my 19 ft inboard/outboard boat out.
I'll be using it to ski/ wakeboard/ tube... that type of stuff.
Obviously the lake is there but I'm new to the area. I've heard it can get pretty choppy. Also I just wasn't sure about water depth/ hazards, etc. (I'm from Galveston, West Bay here has the Channels and if you get out of them you run up on ground practically instantly... don't want to do that)
Also, looking to avoid any risks with gators of course.
Any Suggestions?

Tchefuncte in Madisonville or Tickfaw area off Lake Maurepas. Also could try Bayou Lacombe for a lot less idiots than the Tchefuncte. Nothing really going to work for you any closer to the city.
As for Lake Pontchartrain.....it's plenty deep nearly universally across it, 10-14ft deep but it gets nasty in a snap and a ski boat is not what you want to be in out there.

Sell all your ski gear, use money to get white boy wasted at the Prop Stop, dance on some skanks and get an STD.

Always a viable option, a "fringe" perk for him trekking to the Tickfaw, getting immersed in the local culture n such.

Both. I will generally be using it to Wakeboard and such, but back home where I know people I do like to tie up to other boats and drink some beers.

The Tchefuncte River gets ridiculously crowded on weekends south of the interstate. When we went wakeboarding it was always north of the interstate in Covington or on a random day of the week. Way to many people during the weekends. Good for bird watching, not so much skiing.
Tickfaw could be an option, but I have seen many go-fast boats out there on the weekends running wide open. People run em into the trees at least once a year.
Jourdan river used to be really nice when I went to Stanislaus for camp. Wide open and good water. There were a couple of alligators on side cuts, but they were pretty nice. Dont know how it is now, because I havent been on it in 15 years.
I have never seen anyone skiing in Bayou Lacombe. The only people I have ever seen doing anything during the summer were at the mouth fishing.

The Amite and Blind River can get you out of the rat race, the Diversion, Tchefuncte and Tickfaw can get crazy. The Diversion is a part of the Amite and Blind Rivers and about 45 minutes from New Orleans. The sandbar in Maurepas can get a little crazy...

Take note, both the Ponchartrain and Maurepas can go from slick to very rough very quickly. Summer storms can change the conditions in a hurry; if in doubt get to protected water quickly...

People ski/board/tube out there all the time but it's definitely a lil more "bayou-like" than some of the other rivers, including the swamp critters that go with it. Never had any gator issues out there myself nor heard of any incidents, grew up in the area since '88

If in NOLA, you can launch out of West End Boat Launch or Bonnabel Boat Launch. There is about a 1 mile stretch of somewhat protected water between Bonnabel and the Coast Guard Station that is perfect for making laps. You can wakeboard, ski, tube, kneeboard, or whatever as long as you have a SW/S/SE wind, which you generally will during the summer months. If storms pop up, its literally less than a minute either way to one of the launches. Before I went to college, we used to go out there 3-4 days a week during the May-August and always had a great time.
Funny thing is, I go to school in Galveston and have trouble getting out on the water over here
