I bought a 14' fiberglass pirogue last hunting season. Half of the wood around the lip of the sides was broken off causing the sides to be very flexible. Where/how do i get this wood to replace it or what is a substitute i could use?

Try Ron Chapman 504-277-6526. They replaced a rail on my one a few years back.

Yep. Making a nice delivery of some materials to him tomorrow. They are the ones that do the cypress top rails.

Convert it to the rubber/vinyl rail if possible unless aesthetics are a priority for some reason. I know chapman does it for his own, but not sure about other makers. A call will find that out

Ask for Steve Gerace. I guess he's still the manager there.

EDIT TO ADD: The email address from their website is "steve@pirogue.com". So I guess he's still there.

Geraci, I talk to him about 5 times a week. Super nice guy. He is definitely still there.

Get a piece of cypress that is 1"x2". Rip it down to it is 3/4" thick on a tablesaw. Then stand the board up on the thin side, set fence on the tablesaw to what the depth is were the board sits in and make a pass. Reset the fence a bit outward and make a second pass. Repeat till the board has enough gap to fit over the sides. Glue in place with epoxie. T

Done. Besides, that is how that board is made for that pirogue. They just sand it down even more. Those pirogues need that board to keep the sides from collapsing.

Thanks fish. I'll look into that.
Also, looks aren't important. I just need something easy that will last

He knew my Dad really well. I spent many a days of my childhood in Chalmette Jewelry and Sporting Goods looking at pistols through all the glass cases and rifles on the racks while my Dad wheeled and dealed with him.

White oak would be better and stronger if you can find it.

Nice. He always leaves something off of his weekly order. I see him on Fridays about 3 times a month because he has to come pick up something.

I bought one in the same condition that also had some holes in a seat. I screwed pvc pipe to the side and then glassed over it. It added a little extra weight, but the SOB was heavy when I started so now it's at least really stout too.

Where does one get this rubber rail? (I have not had time to research it so it may be an easy find)
