I'm in the early stages of building a custom duck boat. I visited with a couple of builders in PP yesterday. Are there any I should stay away from?

Any other advice for this process? TIA

No advice on boat builders, but I'll be drinking beers on Belle River today.

I had 1 built by Jason Romero just south of PP in Stephensville 8 years ago. I believe he has a shop in Morgan City now. I've been very happy with the boat and he was easy to deal with. I think he has a website now called Uncle J custom boats.

I know he's not in PP, but he builds the same style flat boat like they do around there.

Never heard anyone complain about an Uncle J. I know a few people with them.

Holler at Casey at sportsman's fabrication in Morgan City. Know quite a few people that had boats made over there. Top notch shite.

I have been in 2 different boats built by Charles Leonard in Pierre part. Both were nice boats that rode well and seemed like quality rigs.

I have heard that since most of those Pierre part guys are pretty much a one man show, schedule can be an issue.

Another recommendation: Clint Gaudet, Gaudet Aluminum Boats in Sorrento. He builds a solid boat.

I'm waiting on a quote from kip Gaspard but I already have a fair quote from Rene Gros. These two guys are the only ones that answer the phone or return calls.

Im not going to advertise price as they don't like to operate that way. And I appreciate the the fact that they actually pick up the phone.

Any specifics on these two?

Kip is good you just need to stay on top of him. He gets easily distracted

Charles Leonard builds a good boat

Casey St Romain propbaly builds the best boat out of all of them.

Stay away from Uncle J

This and you're going to pay for what you get from them. Sold boat for sure.
