Pick one - Shimano Citica vs. Revo S vs. Revo SX

The citica and the revo s are both 129.99, and the revo sx is 159.99.

I will be fishing mostly salt water. I don't finish enough to spend more than 160 on a reel, so no revo inshore or chronarch for me.

Does anybody have experience with any of these?

TIA

I have used both the citica and S, I like them both for different things, citica is my cranking reel, s is better for worming IMO.

Citica

All I do is saltwater fishing and mostly out of a kayak so they see plenty of saltwater. Had a revo and they just arent made for the saltwater like a shimano. It got corroded within a year. If you look around you can sometimes find Citicas on sale around $100 also on ebay. I like my Citica as much as my curado I have

Bought a Citica not too long ago. Nothing bad to say about it.

SX and it isn't even really close IMHO.

Here is one for $135 with free shipping on eBay:

Abu Garcia REVO SX - $135

ETA: The REVO S is a great reel too. But if you have the coin for the SX, go with it. If, however, you want to spend less here is the S for $108:

REVO S for $108

Out of those, the citica. I've had bad luck with the revos.

No experience with Citica, but anything Shimano I've ever had has been $$$.

All i use are citica and curado's. Can't really go wrong with either IF you take care of them(cleaning after saltwater trips, oiling bearings, etc.)

My boys have Revos and Shimanos. They seem to use the Revos more often but they bass fish and do freshwater only.

When in doubt, pick a Shimano.

I hear this alot but I love mine. Never had a problem with it in a full year of hard fishing.

I used mine in saltwater, it crapped out in like 6 months. Now I'm sure the revo inshore is a totally different story, but that's a $250 reel. If I'm spending that on a reel I'm either getting another Calcutta or chronarch.

I have fished all 3 and all are very good, but the Revo SX is the best there is for that price by a long shot. I fish mine in saltwater quite a bit without any problems

I've used mine in both salt and fresh but always rinse them immediately after trip. I hope mine doesn't shite the bed cause I love the smooth casting and even smoother drag.

But I'm with you on the Calcutta. My two are both 18 years old and still function very well.

Thanks coco, but I got a bunch of Academy gift cards I will be using to buy this reel, so I'm kinda stuck there.

Im just the opposite. I like my citca for light applications and my revos for cranking and heavy jigs etc. Citica just feels too light for heavy cranking to me, but obviously it works if you use it.

re: Pick one - Shimano Citica vs. Revo S vs. Revo SX
Hah. That's at least the third time this almost exact scenariory has played itself out on here. I've linked to great e-bay deals for hunting/fishing equipment only to have the OP let me know they have a gift certificate to Academy/BPS/Cabela's. I just find it amusing.

That being said, all of the reels are good and will do what you want them too. I have experience with both Shimano and Abu Garcia products, and for bass fishing and inshore fishing prefer the REVOs.

ETA: The drag on the REVOs is what really impresses me. Super smooth but can be set up to 20lbs+. If you're targeting bull reds, or even decide to venture out for mangroves, the added drag will come in handy.

Not revo s.

Mine lasted 6 months. It eats levelwind pawls

I own multiple Revo SXs and they are my favorite reels of all time.
