No he could not adequately shoot a compound bow in hunting situations. Not even close.

it has nothing to do with it being a crossbow.

I would venture that the same unskilled hunter flock shooting into a thicket could not judge distance, position himself, raise bow, draw, anchor and release a bow without being spotted by the same deer.

Well in my case that is not true. I have a compound and have been hunting with it for a long time.

explain. Are they primarily fools who luck into kills? Or do you take issue with the extra hunting days?

i personally dont like how easy the new laws have made it to kill deer with relatively little skill.

50 yard crossbow shot is common where a 40 yard compound bow is difficult.

Same goes for "muzzleloader" / primitive

NUKE DEER must have been drinking from the drainage canals coming out of that Nuke Plant.

Tell him to go back this weekend and look for his "Two-Headed Brother".

thats what i was wondering- whether it was the fact that it takes away from the hunters who really work at their sport or if the CB hunters were wounding animals or otherwise disregarding hunting ethics/laws/mgt practices.
I can see why the subject line event would piss off other hunters. I feel the same way when i see some fricknut with a shitty boat, sucky rods/reels and a stringer of big trout.

Both my shoulders are fried, I'm done with injections and I'm not having surgery again until I can't lift my arms and I still can't bring myself to buy a crossbow.

i have to admit i have the same gut reaction.

quote:

this is a fair point. it is significantly easier than using a compound bow.

that being said, there are a lot of legal things out there that make hunting a LOT easier these days. corn feeders, deer cameras, GPS's. hell, just the improved weather forecasts are a game changer. i just don't see how cross bows are so 'evil' compared to these other things. i really think corn feeders and cameras have killed far more deer than crossbows ever will. and even though shooting a compound is harder than a crossbow, shooting a traditional bow is much harder still. i think a lot of people probably bitched about compounds when they came out.

also i would say that i am torn about how many people are attracted to the sport. i think more people hunting is better for the sport in the long run but obviously it's frustrating to have to deal with so many assholes all the time. life's not perfect though. i'm glad i have the opportunities to hunt that i do.

edited for spelling.

None of these things kill deer. Its one thing to bring them in or to be in the right area. Its another thing to be able to close the deal. Crossbows make that part ( the most important part imo) a lot easier. I know a guy that killed a deer from a box stand with a crossbow at 50 yards looking through a scope. Could have easily been a trophy buck. There are probably way more examples out there of how way more deer are killed now during bow season because of this.

In a similar way to the 45/70, it makes the primitive season a farce and nothing more than a way to sell another kind of tag. It brings zero new hunters to the woods.

I don't feel strongly on this either way, but would you rather these kinds of people be taking shots at a shoulder in the brush with a bow? Least he dropped the deer and it didn't run off far enough to rot. Just my 2 cents.

Depending on definition of 'new" hunter but I disagree. I know several people that never bow hunted but now have crossbows and hunt now. Also know many that use to sit out the week of muzzleloader but now hunt it. That means more people hunting during that week, and more deer killed. So by "new" i mean "new" to hunting these particular seasons.

Would you rather someone steal your truck or just set it on fire? Both suck and neither should be accepted. Without a crossbow season some asshats would not be in the woods

Your new is not the new that counts. You just provided the reason for not having these seasons. Same hunters...different days.
