I have a buddy of mine who has been issued a permit by the LA wildlife and fisheries for the capture of one (juvenile) passage Peregrine Falcon.

If anyone has had any sightings of this bird within the state of LA or know where one might be - please let us know.

I told him about this board, and how it may be a good resource, but he has not yet received approval to post. I want him to catch this thing, so please help if anyone knows anything.

One was seen at Indian Creek in Rapides Parish about 2 weeks ago. I have seen one there in the past. Only other that I recall was on the Delta Plantation property in Catahoula Parish.

We see them in the winter when the goldfinches migrate south and swarm our backyard birdfeeder. They follow the goldfinch migration and put a dent in the population. I've never seen them nest around here though. I would suggest scouting the swamps south of Ponchatoula and Springfield.

I know a guy who got a picture of one on his window ledge in a very tall building in downtown New Orleans.

Aside from that you probably want to try the Louisiana coast.

apparently the state issues one permit per season where the winner of a lottery can catch one and teach it to train for hunting. Seems pretty cool. I just want to help him find one and the first thing I thought of was "go to the outdoor board on Tiger Droppings."

Figured shared knowledge could only help.

I had two different ones come into my green house a few years ago. I've also seen them in Venice. A buddy and I were fishing down river and saw one kill a duck in mid-air.

What happened to Teague, our resident falconer? Don't recall him posting much lately.

For real? That sucks. I love that damn falconry thread! With all the bitching going on over on the Rant, hopefully we can have a reinstatement thread soon.

I saw one twice today on Marsh Island WMA. It was sitting on an osprey perch in Birds Island Bayou a couple of hundred yards down stream from the camp. The manager said that they had been seeing one or two here for the past couple of weeks.

I've seen many of them offshore on drillshipor floaters way out in the gulf at times. I've seen as many as 12 hanging out on one rig before. Pretty cool to watch them chased down and kill small birds and eat them while hovering in the wind.

So tell your buddy to go out to a floater about 150 miles offshore and he can catch one.
